Realistically I am wondering what the Knicks could trade to get another 2nd rounder... man, they just gave away too many over the past few years, even after they accumulated them.

The Knicks are in a tough spot. I am not sure but they might have a shot at getting Houstons second round pick if they took Brooks or DelFino. I think they could do that if they used their trade exception, White and Barron for Brooks. I am not sure what is up with Q's contract. It seems like his deal on trade machine is his previous deal. If Grunwald gave him a Gadzuric contract then the Knicks could do the deal and keep the exception or go for DelFino.

At least Camby's deal is partially guaranteed after next yr

Nothing to add to the discussion?

We can't trade players and exceptions in the same trade.

Regarding the trade exception -- how did we acquire it again and how much is it worth? And then could we use part of it/all of it to trade for an additional draft pick (a low 1/high 2) on Thurs night?

Traded player exceptions (TPE) are made when a team trades a player and doesn't receive equal salary in return and it's worth the difference in salary; our TPE was created when we traded Ronnie Brewer to OKC for a future 2nd rounder and is worth about $900k (according to ESPN it's worth $954,389). We can trade all or part of it for a draft pick; we can trade all or part of it for a player making up to $100k more than the TPE we're trading; because we're over the cap we can't include it in a trade if we're trading players at the same time but, if the salaries match up correctly, we could make two separate trades at the same time we're one would include players and the other one would be the TPE; and I don't know if teams under the cap can combine a TPE with players in the same trade.

Ahh, Ronnie Brewer...Forgot that little deal we made. Thanks bro.

So it's worth about 995k -- is that prorated down from what Brewer initially signed with us for? Just curious. I think he played a little more than half a season when we dealt him.

Just trying to get an idea of what the going rate for picks might be:

Toney Douglas - Lakers' 29th pick in 2009 = $3M + a 2011 2nd rounder.
Jerome Jordan - Milwaukee's 44th pick in 2010 = $1M
Josh Harrellson - New Orleans' 45th pick in 2011 = somewhere between 700-750k

So you figure that trade exception alone should be able to get us a pick starting around 44-45, if the teams picking there decide they don't need the pick (big if).

Question 1: Sounds like we can't use cash considerations to make a deal tomorrow night for a pick --- how about future cash considerations, as in we agree to pay up when our ability to use cash resets itself?

Question 2: If the above is possible, then can we combine the trade exception with future cash considerations? If so, then we're looking at close to $4M total and that might be enough to sneak into the lower part of the first round (26-30 maybe).

Question 3: What future 2nd round picks do we have available to use in a deal?

VCoug thanks for explaining the trade exception. I am not sure about future cash considerations but it is mentioned in the Posting and Toasting article today.

Only picks worth trading for are the early 2nd rounders.
