Pierce isn't making Cleveland relevant. How does this make sense?

Pushes them into playoffs, which is what the young guys need. They got Irving, Waiters, and Tristen and their draft picks this year with Varejao coming back from injury. The young guys need his experience.

he is one of the smarter, playmaking players in the league, one of the nba's most skilled players. he makes cleveland plenty relevant especially if you want him to help take some of the orchestrating burden off of irving. looking at irving's numbers it is a good idea to have pierce on that team.

the key is to limit pierce's minutes to around 28 a game.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

pierce would be awesome on knicks,

melo pierce, unstoppable front court, but then tyson is still a problem because of softness

as long as they don't give up that #1 draft pick it's a great deal.

if the cavs add pierce, plus most likely noel (although for my money i'm taking oladipo #1) thats an awesome nucleus when you factor in what they already have.

I imagine it would be for #19, and it's one of those trades that makes a lot of sense for both teams. The Celtics need to get younger, and the AAA young talent in Cleveland would benefit from seeing how Paul Pierce does it night in, night out

We should be able to beat that offer. Making the salaries match would be a problem though. Does Cleveland not have to worry about that since they're under the cap?
Regardless, Pierce can help a contending team but I think Cleveland should use their limited cap space on younger players with better futures.

you would think the #19 would be involved but that article says cleveland is trying to pair their second rounders in the deal.

bonn - cleveland can not just absorb pierce because they are under the cap, they have about 4m cap space, which isn't nearly enough to absorb pierces 16m+ salary. actually upon looking at this more closely, there isn't really a way for this trade to happen unless a third team becomes involved. or unless if the cavs want to trade involving players.

someone tell me if im wrong?

Yeah, because they're under the cap Cleveland doesn't need to have salaries match in trades. They can take back as much salary as they want as long as it doesn't put them more than $100k above the salary cap. They're cap number is just over $30M which doesn't include their team option on CJ Miles, the qualifying offers for Omri Casspi and Wayne Ellington, or Marreese Speights' player option. All those combined make up another $13M in cap space to bring their number up to about $43M. Since Pierce is making just over $15M Cleveland should probably be able to absorb his contract without having to trade any players. Even if Pierce's contract doesn't fit they would only have to trade back a small player salary to make it work or they could decline the options/QO on any of Casspi/Ellington/Miles.

I understand the thinking behind trading for Pierce, especially since he's expiring anyway and probably wouldn't stay in Cleveland past this season, but I agree with you that they should be looking to add more young talent to build around. They should be saving that cap space to help other teams make trades/dump salary in return for talented young players and draft picks. A better plan for them would be to facilitate both Dallas and Houston in dumping salary this Summer. Cleveland could get Marion and the 13th overall pick from Dallas and should still have enough leftover cap space to take on whatever salary Houston looks to dump (Thomas Robinson or, preferably, Omer Asik). And Marion's contract is expiring anyway so they could flip him to another team looking to dump salary or just let him expire and they gain a bunch of cap space back again.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Great, someone else who we could possibly watch retire in one season...

This would be tough to root for, a little bit like getting Reggie Miller back in the day.
Couldn't we just get Gallo back and be happy with that?

I agree with you. IMO PP will make a world of difference with Cleveland or Washington. Both teams are young and are a step away from being really good teams.

So Paul pierce to Cleveland would be good and pierce to NY is bad?

pierce would help irving orchestrate but he would not be able to co-exist with carmelo anthony because anthony does not like moving without the ball or work from a pick and roll game in either role. besides, carmelo would need to take a secondary role in the offense when pierce was on the floor. does anybody think he is capable of that?

I personally think if the Celtics came back with Jeff green, Tyson, rondo, whoever they can get in a Garnett trade they would be alright...

If the knicks had pierce the next two years we'd be alright too....

Alot of names meeting thrown around in the rumor wire.

Why would piece only be able to help Irving orchestrate and not melo?

I think pierce would be like wade to Lebron. If anything things roils work the same way it works in Boston with garnet. Add A'mare to the mix and the knicks would be nice
