June 24, 2013 9:23 AM Brook Lopez has third surgery on right foot BY Stefan Bondy
A postseason physical uncovered the screw in Lopez’s surgically-repaired foot had bent and was replaced, the Nets announced Monday. Lopez, who twice fractured that foot during the 2011-12 season, will resume “basketball-related activities” in August, although the Nets did not reveal when the latest surgery took place. Lopez signed a four-year, $61 million contract before last season, but the Nets were unable to get insurance on his right foot. The Nets begin training camp in October. It’s an alarming development considering the history. This is the third time in less than two years that Lopez had surgery on his right foot. He first fractured his fifth metatarsal bone in December of 2011, and re-fractured the foot just five games after returning – sabotaging his lockout-shortened season. Last season, Lopez sprained the foot and missed seven games – although the Nets insisted it was completely unrelated to previous problems. The latest setback is certainly related, however. Lopez, 25, was the Nets only All-Star last season and a bright spot in the playoffs. But tall players and persistent foot problems are a scary mix. I'm tired,I'm tired, I'm so tired right now......Kristaps Porzingis 1/3/18
