For Pick 13

Per Chad Ford

The Dallas Mavericks have aggressively shopped the 13th overall pick in order to clear cap room this offseason.

The New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly shown interest in acquiring the pick.

The Mavericks are seeking either a 2014 first round pick or a deal to unload Shawn Marion's contract to create more cap space.

Some around the league believe the Mavericks may have already secured a deal for the pick.

Well Denver has our 2014 pick

&

That means no unloading Chandler/Amar'e

So the only thing I can think of is Novak/Shumpert for Marion and Pick 13...saves them about $3mil next year if Marion opts in, which he more than likely would. It sucks to be a team with very little options.

It's like being at the top of a Canyon with a Grizzly and a pack of Wolves charging you. You have an option to jump into a large body of water with Gold at the bottom of it...problem is the Cliffhanger is a 3000ft drop

Can't trade shumpert, he is a better prospect than what you will find at the 13th pick.

Well if we could get a deal done looking at things as you state would be putting getting things done in a vacuum. Here we go overrating Shumpert.

If somehow the 13th pick could be acquired I'd be of the mindset to see what we could do with our 2013 pick(24) and the Mavs pick (13) pick. What kills me is Marion's salary.

The only team that can take Marion is a team with CAP space next year. He is an expiring contract.

there are not many teams looking to take Marion or give up a future 1st in a better draft class. the deal that makrs sense is Camby, white, and cash for marion and the 1st. It saves them 6 mil and Camby has a 1million buyout.

Mavs aren't looking for a total savings on trade....they are primarily looking for immediate cap space this summer, so they can be players in free agency.

Another trash offer...that would never get it done and 29 other teams can do better. Camby's buyout is on his last year which is after next year.

I think this draft is as good as last year's draft....therefore their could be at least 5 players better than Shumpert up to 10. I would want at least a 2nd rounder out of the deal if we were even eligible to take on Marion's deal considering our Cap situation and CBA rules.

Which 5 and will they be available at 13?

I predict lots of busts in this draft.

exactly that's what the 6 million is. That's what they save this summer because Marion salary goes up and Camby's goes down. I am not saying that deal is going to get it but that is the type of deal they are going to get. No one is going to give up a young prospect and take on Marion for a pick in this year draft.

The Busts would come prior to 13 correct? I mean you really aren't a bust after the Lottery? So do you not trust this franchise if they had a lottery pick, is that what you're saying? Not to mention you pretty much state the same script about the draft every year.

Sacramento gave up a lottery pick at the trade deadline?

OKC gave up Harden for future draft picks and an expiring....supposedly picks in a weaker draft that was touted as a bad trade by OKC and Houston simultaneously on this board.

one deal the Mavs could make is S&T with the Bucks which would get them Ellis if they miss out on the other big names. Supposedly Dirk likes Ellis.

Yeah that could be a probability. It'll be interesting to see what they do with Mayo...seems like he's already not in the picture.

I'd take on Marion's contract if it meant the 13th pick, no question. But, like others have already said, Dallas wants to dump salary not swap it. In order to trade for Marion we need to send back $9,236,796 $7,373,436 in salary to Dallas and cash doesn't count towards that number. At most, we have $3M in non-guaranteed contracts (and I don't think we even have that much) so we'd still need to send another another $6M in salary and I don't know why Dallas would agree to that.

Dallas is below the Cap so salaries do not have to match. I think since we're a Tax Paying team we have to come within 150% correct?

and marion isn't a bad player either, one of those two way players, and although he has seen better days is still a pretty effective player..

come on man, who knows.. but jeez, stop acting as if shumpert is that good.... shumpert still has a ways to go to be a good ball player, his handle needs works, his passing, shooting, heck there could be 10 players in the draft better than shumpert.. who knows, but it may be worth the chance is what he is saying, it is not like you are giving up a sure thing with shumpert.. he hasn't put together a full good season yet, so lets not go overboard... I like shumpert a lot, but the knicks have to keep all options open...
