I will start this off by saying I am a fan of Carmelo Anthony although I admit he isnt an easy player to build around. Other then the obvious choice of Lebron James whose skill set mixes with any player on earth who out there has the skills to compliment Melo. You need a player that can defend the 3 or 4 proficiently to take whoever the tougher match up is.A plus rebounder at both the 3/4. He also must be able to spread the floor being able to knock down 20 foot jump shots. That seems to be the minimum to be successful. Can the Knicks find a pleyer like that cheaply? I very much doubt it but without any Draft Picks I see no other choice to push on with Melo at least for 1 more year. So, if anyone has any ideas how they can fill this hole realistically Id love to hear it. If u cant do it realistically then unrealistic is fine

I think Marvin Williams would be perfect. He's no star but has played a hybrid forward with the Hawks for a number of years before being trading. He has shown the ability to defend the 3 pretty well and has the skill to be a very effective help defender thanks to his lengthy 6-9 frame. His jump shot has come a long way over the years and I think he can be a fairly consistent threat from deep, especially with the looks we can give him. He is also pretty good at cutting to the basket and finishing with a dunk.

Other guys I'd consider that have a similar skillset are Andrei Kirilenko, Jeff Green, Tayshaun Prince, Chris Singleton; maybe Danny Granger, Ekpe Udoh and Mbhah a Moute.

LOL, you posted this at 7:20am on a Saturday morning. You couldn't get people up at that time if free money was being given away so give the responses some time.

Some good names there a couple are feasible. I think this is the biggest hole on the roster. I can see why some posters get frustrated with Melo though. Individual talent wise Melo is a Top 5 player but the problem is trying to put pieces around him that can fit is a nightmare.

There are plenty of forwards that compliment Carmelo. Millsap, LOve, Aldrige, Anderson, West, Bosh, Cousins, Davis, Harris, and Marion. Maybe D. Williams, ilyasova, Horford, and a few others.

Yeah, I know how tough it is to break the routine. I've got the same problem.

If youre talking abuot realistic options then:
-dante cunningham at PF
-Marv williams at SF
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I think by year 2 Mike Muscala would be perfect. When he is 6-11.5 245 with his in/out game--he'll be a perfect compliment to Anthony for the next 3-4 years.

I actually wouldn't mind him coming back because he and Melo should fit in well with each other. He could very well become available given the changeup in the Nuggets power-structure. I don't think Gallo's injury history and the fact that he is overpaid will endear him to the new management. These concerns are compounded by a roster that has similarly talented players at Gallo's position, who are also cheaper.

I still think that Carmelo's best position is at the 4, both defensively and offensively. He'll have trouble against the Carlos Boozer's, David West's and Zach Randolph's of the world but who doesn't? Our goal should be to acquire a 3 that can double down effectively on those types. Either way, Melo at the 4 has not been the Knicks problem; our inability to score against elite defenses in the playoffs has been (see the Celtics in 2011, Heat in 2012 and Pacers in 2013). We've regularly kept the opponents that have beat us below 100 points, so I think the need rests with the need for a better offensive orchestrator (see Rajon Rondo) and/or a capable and consistent scorer next to Melo (see Pau Gasol).

I agree that vs those teams melo shouldnt be playing the 4. But against most of the league hes a big problem at 4

Can we get away with playing him at the 4 if we don't have a Tyson Chandler at the 5? From everything that has been said on this board and in the papers, trading Chandler would bring back the most value next to Melo. Doing so is kind of a "cutting off your nose to spite your face" situation because you need an elite, big defender at the 5 spot to compensate for the lack of height at the 4 spot.

I think the Knicks went 16-2 without Tyson to end the year. It isn't the ideal but they were able to win. I think if Grunwald could get a lesser expensive big to fill that role it might work.

Do you think the Bulls try to move him with the emergence of Butler? Deng is really good. I don't know if the Knicks have enough to trade.

I personally can't see it. The guy is too good and too central to their plans for them to trade him without serious value coming back. He would definitely fit in well with Melo though.
