If we used the 3mm $ last year--why cant we use it this year--i thought it was an annual usage?

Also am I right on this

we have our 3.5 MLE to use and a 2 year 3.9mm lle?

We cannot do normal sign and trades unless a player asks the Knicks to do it??

Anything above 950K we have to dig into the MLE to pay either Copeland or Prigioni?

Do we have any injury player exemptions?

that was changed in the last CBA. I believe teams now have the ability to do that every other year as small market clubs kept dumping assets to, well, the Knicks

the 3mil is usuable every year, the year is from jul 1 -june 30th.

we have the mini mle but the lle is for team under the tax it's called bae now.

we can't do sign and trade because we are over the tax apron, the trade if done must take the knicks under the apron and then it forces a hard cap to the apron, can't exceed it to fill the roster.

yes to pablo and cope

no injury exceptions.

So conceivably we can buy a pick but cant make the transfer until July.

One small correction. We could sign-and-trade JR Smith to another team without a problem. The Clippers can't sign-and-trade Chris Paul to us. We can sign-and-trade our free agents to other teams but other teams can't sign-and-trade their players to us.

Zwerling said in his article today that the Knicks are trying to trade for a round two pick. I don't know if they move some of their team option contracts that come due on 7/1 if they can get a pick. I also wonder if they could trade (i.e. Nevins rights) and future cash considerations.

White's unguaranteed deal should come in handy imo.

How does Kidd retiring affect our status with the tax apron?

If we sign and traded our free agents, would we still receive a trade exception? If so, could we acquire a player via trade whose contract is the rough estimate of the sum of these exceptions? Can several of these exceptions be combined with a salaried player to get a player and/or players of approximate value e.g. Steve Novak, a $4 million trade exception, a $3 million exception, a $2 million trade exception for Pau Gasol and Darius Morris?

If we sign-and-traded (or just traded) a single player and don't receive a similar salary in return we would receive a traded player exception. Traded player exceptions can only be traded by themselves or combined with draft picks or minimum salary players. The maximum salary we can receive when we trade an exception is the amount of the exception plus $100k

Could the trade exception be parlayed for cash incentives only? If so, would we be able to trade the incoming cash for draft picks and maintain an additional $3 million of our own money to include in potential deals?

We could probably trade it for cash but I'm not sure. Regardless, we're only allowed to trade a maximum of $3M a year even if we receive cash from another team.

If the Knicks renounce JR Smith they are below the tax apron, which is around 74 million. That doesn't do them a whole lot of good, though.

The Kidd buyout could put them below the tax line next year if it goes up come July. They'd still be over it by less than a million, I think.

The time is now to build up assets. Draft Muscala with the 24th pick and acquire an early 2nd round pick for a high upside guy like Ledo. Hopefully in 2 years we will have a team centered around a resigned Melo, developing Shumpert, some young up and coming prospects, and enough cap space for a max player.

I dont care who they draft as long as we get a serviceable player. Muscala seems like he will get pushed around on the block.

He has his weaknesses and would need to gain weight but is an NBA ready player with reasonable upside. See the thread on him. Also, he is just an example but there will be plenty of rotation players available which is why we need to do our best to get another pick.
