Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari (left knee surgery) was originally thought to be ready to play Jan. 1, but Gallinari confirmed by text Thursday that he might not return until later in January or maybe even February.
While Gallinari underwent surgery on his meniscus four weeks ago, he had a slight delay in his rehab and won't have surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament for another two weeks, he said during a talk show on 102.3 ESPN.
Gallinari suffered the season-ending injury April 4. He averaged 16.2 points and 5.2 rebounds — both career highs — and made a team-leading 135 3-pointers in 71 games this season. He finished second on the Nuggets to Andre Miller with 82 percent free-throw shooting, while attempting 4.9 per game, most on the team.
In Nuggets wins, Gallo shot 39.2 from 3-point range, while just 32.3 in losses. It is expected that Wilson Chandler would start for Gallinari at small forward.
