With limited assets, melo getting into contract extension mode, Amare not having much trade value, It's a giving Tyson will be shipped. But with Hibert looking like the best center in the league and the pacers, bulls and miami all having different style rosters, but basically are the teams to concern ourselves with, what direction should the team go in.. Trading tyson could back fire becacuae who guards Hibert, gottta get a PG that can guard the likes of deron, rose hill, jru, 3 point shooters to to beat the heat, and a more physical team to handle the bulls and pacers..

We could be in serious trouble despite coming off of a 54 win season..

Carmelo Anthony agrees with the sentiment of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim regarding the state of the Knicks’ roster — he needs help.

According to a source, Anthony has told a confidant he is concerned management will stand pat this offseason and said he believes the team needs to add a bona fide secondary scorer for the Knicks to take the next step and win a championship.

The source said Anthony loves combo guard Iman Shumpert, 22, and projects him as a superstar, but not for two seasons. The source also said Anthony privately wishes the club will add a significant piece to the roster and not be status quo.

Boeheim’s remarks last week criticizing the roster’s strength hit home with Anthony, who values his former coach’s evaluations.

Anthony, rehabbing a small tear in his left shoulder that may have hampered him vs. Indiana, has an opt-out clause after next season, making the 2013-14 campaign pivotal regarding his future decisions. Under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, the Knicks and Anthony can agree to an extension in mid-February — the third anniversary of his last extension.

Anthony originally lobbied to come to the Knicks in 2010-11 to play alongside All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire, but injuries have haunted Stoudemire’s New York stint. Knicks officials said they believe Stoudemire may be put on a minutes restriction next season, too, limiting his impact.

General manager Glen Grunwald said last week the team will try to be “creative’’ and “aggressive’’ with the roster but said the major core would return.

Boeheim, who coached Anthony at Syracuse, was critical of the Knicks’ roster in a Syracuse newspaper after they were eliminated in the second round by the Pacers in six games. Boeheim said it wasn’t Anthony’s fault and the Knicks don’t have second, third and fourth options on offense who are strong enough to support Anthony.

Asked if the Knicks could win a title with Anthony, Boeheim said, “Not with this team.’’

With Stoudemire injured most of the season, the Knicks’ second option was Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith, a free agent the Knicks intend to re-sign but who has not been a reliable playoff performer.

The third option was point guard Raymond Felton. Smith shot 33 percent in the playoffs and Felton scored just two points on 0-for-7 shooting in the series-ending Game 6 loss at Indiana. The Knicks shot just 41 percent in the playoffs, averaging a meager 88.6 points.

Grunwald brushed off Boeheim’s critique last week.

“He’s obviously very loyal to Melo,” Grunwald said. “So I understand where his comments came from.’’

“A lot of people think I said it because I’m a Melo fan,” Boeheim told The Post yesterday. “But I’m just being objective as a basketball head coach who watches 60 Knicks games a year. ’’

Boeheim said yesterday Anthony made Smith and Felton better than they are because of the attention he draws from the defense. But that wasn’t enough vs. Indiana.

The Pacers will get better next season with the return of Danny Granger, and the Bulls, who were 4-0 vs. the Knicks, will get back 2010-11 NBA MVP Derrick Rose. Boeheim said yesterday the Knicks are a solid 50-win team next season but not good enough to win the East.

Anthony was diplomatic and politically correct with the media nine days ago on Trash Bag Day. He stressed a need to get better but was typically vague and indicated he wouldn’t interfere unless summoned.

Asked what the roster needs, Anthony said, “It’s hard to say. I don’t want to jump the gun and say we need this or need that. Let the front office evaluate that. If they want my input, they know how to contact me.’’

The roadblock to the Knicks making a major move is they are not permitted to do a sign-and-trade for a free agent this season to go after point guard Chris Paul because they are over the luxury-tax threshold. Grunwald would need to make a move via a regular trade, with center Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Shumpert and Steve Novak as potential pawns if the GM is so inclined.

“It’s a team game, team sport,’’ Anthony said last week. “At the end of the day, as face of the team, it comes down to me. I accept that. We got to get better as a team and as a unit. We will. Look at this offseason and see what we got to do to make this team better. I wouldn’t put that pressure on myself to say I have to do it on my own. We as a team will get better and be better next year.’

I'm not even reading into what berman thinks, you can take the facts out of this article and make your own opinion..

One of the main issues I have, can Woodson learn to do a better job on the offensive end, and melo get out of the mind set of I have to score 30 regardless of how many shot I throw up to get that 30..

Melo said that this is the most talented team he has ever play with( as long as amare and Rasheed can contribute consistantly) and that aint happening

Forget the sources, everyone knows that the Knicks need to get better. They need help scoring all their bigs were a big let down this year. Relying on JR Smith to be a scoring option isn't what you call a smart decision. Ray Felton coming up small in elimination game speaks volumes about his game. Shumpert is still feeling his way through the injury. So if you really look at the Knicks roster they need help a lot of it because most of the vets they relied on for the fast start are done.

All the vets are broken down players. Amare can't really rely on him to be healthy, same with Camby, Kidd is finished, Wallace retired, and Kenyon is a one way player at this stage in his career. There is very little to work with for the Knicks. I can't see the Knicks having a year like they did this year. The Knicks window was this year only unlike Boston had with their vets KG, Peirce and Allen.

Knicks at are a stage where they have to create a new window of opportunity. The window for this current team is closed.

Nope he wants to see us squirm here on UK.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I agree with most of your assessment except regarding Felton. For MOST of the post season, he was the best player on the team. Indiana just had a damn good defender on him who's length would make it difficult for most regularly sized point guards. Coming up short against a superior player is no knock.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

boeheim is a hypocritical douche, just another corrupt coaching cog comprising the ncaa conveyor belt. coaches are supposed to be mentors. where was he when melo was trying to put money before team? of course melo has no team-- he made sure of it!

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

This domino effect really started when Dolan let Lin go. If we sign Lin from that gift ruling from the NBA then we would have Felton's salary slot open to sign a younger player. We could have been in play for ...

Jesus Shuttlesworth (Old but capable)
Chris Kaman
OJ Mayo
Matt Barnes
Pietrus
Gerald Wallace

We would have signed somebody other than KT and Camby. It's just mismanagement...as usual.

Felton played great for the most part, but in the 2 key games we loss to the pacers, game 1 and 6, he was a no show. But in MDA similar fashion, if our pg has a bad game (in this system), our chances of winning drop significantly.

I don't think we need another bonifide scorer, especially if our coach puts guys in a position to excel, and guys know there role (which for the most part they do). Having another scorer just adds to a coach and his heavy ISO playbook, but the problem with that, is you still get a lot of standing around, but having a legit PG who (maybe nate) can score and pass, will eliminate the ISO's considerable

WE loaded up on our major 2 weaknesses from the prior seasons (pg, and big man off the bench) like VMART said, they all dissappeared in the playoffs, just like every analyst predicted.

OUR 3 point shooting came crashing down to earth to make matters worse and woodson was left looking completely incompetent, scratching his head, and grabbing for straws..

Yeah but having lin here would have made a world of difference, LIN get to the FT line more.

Thats why Amare still has a impact despite his knees, he gets to the FT line at will, and if woodson was smarter he would have realize how to use amare in limited minutes and still be effective, getting hibert and west in to foul trouble which is how we won the only 2 games in the series

Yup. Game dynamics would have changed. Amare would have been better. Tyson would have been better. Oh well. We have an idiot owner.

How did this turn into a LIN issue? LOL

Lin like george hill, arent that good. Theyre solid PGs who can run a team but none are great. I still think Hill is a spot up 3pt shooter whos being forced to play PG.

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Again, using the amnesty was foolish. Tyson is overrated. There is no way he should have been on the first team. Glen overpaid a bunch of guys Kidd, Novak and Camby and backed himself into a corner. There is little room for improvement.

Tyson's value is at an all time low. In the East the Hawks, Bulls, Nets, Pacers, Cavs all have better centers and the list is likely as long in the western conference. The teams that need veteran presences don't need him either. The Wizards have Nene, who maybe an upgrade, but again how many Nuggets can you have on one team, maybe if they included Ariza in the deal it would give us some added depth and a little youth and defense, but that's really it right now. Minny has a center that's better, the Suns, perhaps you can get Gortat and Dudley? The Clips aren't giving up bledshoe and jordon, so where do you go?

Anyone with brain cells knows Melo has probably made it crystal clear to management that he needs help.

I dont read into Grunwalds public comments. They tried to dump Amare last year and they will likely try move Chandler this summer. Knicks depending on Amare to come back next season is comical at best. Amare hasnt been healthy the last 2 seasons. Expecting him to be healthy for a full season next year is foolish.

Knicks are going to have to take a step back next year to move forward.

I agree with you but I think we have a core u settling issue that unless addressed will mean we won't be able to win a chip with Melo. It's the combination of a "Star" player who is a one dimensional ball hog and a coach unable to design and run an offense.

If we can get a coach who can force Melo to play in an offensive system and not have him pout about the ridiculous number of shots he is jacking up or if we can get another star player who becomes the primary option with Melo playing the secondary option then our window will re-open.

What we will do instead is repeat this insanity where we spend the entire season without an offensive plan and without involving any of the supporting cast in the offense and then when Melo fails to score 60 points during the playoffs we will pint fingers at everyone but him.

What no one explains is how the supporting players are suddenly expected to start making shots after being completely ignored and forgotten on offense throughout the entire season. That applies to just about everyone except JR and he had a meltdown.

Our problems are simple:

A. Melo can't play with others who need to score the ball - unless he had a guy like Coach K to check his ego
B. Melo then has issues with not having others that can score the ball
C. Woody doesn't know how to coach an offense

If we can solve one of those we might get closer.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!
