What would you trade Tyson for?
We need to get an all-star or several very good players in return
Need to at least get a starting calibre big man
Need to get a front-court or back-court starter
Need to at least get a decent bench player (a 7th or 8th man)
Just need a 2nd round pick

Unless there's something seriously wrong with his physical or mental health, I'd go with the first option.

First option. That's actually why I want to trade him, to get multiple pieces back.

Wonderful to think you'll imporove.

You either get a player better at offense, but not defense.

Then we can complain how bad he and Amare are.

We we a very good defensive team with few turnovers.

We need some slightly younger versions of our "tales from the crypt" big man bench.

What you have in KT, Rashweed, Martin and Camby...........

Where's the 'don't trade him' option? Because I'm firmly in the camp. Last season wasn't his finest but I do think a healthy Chandler is part of the solution

Trade Chandler to OKC for Thabeet and picks, use the money gained to get Blatche and vet PG. I feel Blatche can be very good addition to the Knicks.

Very good defense? Not this past year. But Tyson still has value around the league, probably even despite his contract.

Can't do that. Both teams are over the cap so we'd need to match salaries.

I honestly think the deal I propose with Portland is already OVERVALUED considering for 6 more mill, they can likely get Pau Gasol on a 1 year rental
Chandler's DEF has been nonexistent the past couple of months when he came back with his effort *WHICH REALLY BOTHERED ME WITH EFFORT*

I don't know if it is more contributed to his injury/health *loss of 15pds from strep throat* or if it is a sign of decline after over 10+ years in the league
If Chandler cannot become back a TOP DEFENDER 1v1 and sold help defender, he is a complete waste of cap space and WOodson will continue to ride him instead as well

If I was Portland I would like to trade and sign cheaper options rather than Chandler's 14m salary for 2 more seasons
Considering Rudy Gay who has much more potential to continue to develop was traded for cap space/ 1 2nd round pick/ a old overpayed role player in Prince/ and a undersized PF/C role player, my trade suggestion with Portland is a complete steal

Chandler is more likely to be in huge decline vs the potential of Gay

I honestly would even take the deal for 2 2nd round picks and getting the draft rights of PAP back
The flexibility in going under the tax threshold with sign and trades, trades, ability to keep Copeland, and ability to use 5m on 2 players, and Bi Annual Exemption is worth the trade itself, in addition to the 14m in trade exemption
I just don't see a team giving us a 1st rounder for Chandler, especially a lottery pick and/or a young player
A bad contract like Perkins and a late 1st rounder is possible but I would rather have the trade exemption because of the ability to gain the 5m MLE and bi annual exemption
No disrespect to Chandler but he simply is NOT worth what some of us think he is worth, at least not at his age/performance in play offs

This is my opinion and I did not like how he went to the media to attack our team mates with his performance, instead of keeping it in the locker room
I think he is 100% right but that still does not justify bashing his own team mates with the media

For all the people that voted for option #1
"We need to get an all-star or several very good players in return"
seriously is overvaluing Chandler and is not evaluating his poor play off performance as Chandler was Hibbert's B!^#%
Thing is, just last season when he was voted DPOY, he was locking down Hibbert/D12 *likely was already playing hurt with bad back* with 1v1 coverage and even helped out on TEAM DEF
His play in the middle/late season was putrid and even worse in the play offs
The effort simply was not there as he unable and not willing to cut/fight for position
He loss much mobility, heart, athleticism, and he was exposed for it in addition to his lack of offensive threat

For those same poster's, change the question around, and if you were GM on the other team, what would you trade for Chandler at 14m for 2 more seasons?

you think fans over value him but the fans didn't vote him 1st team D. Gms will write off his playoffs with his sickness. Also, Portland wants a defensive Center.

are a couple of free agents that would make much less than Chandler

FA's
===============

Tiago Splitter
Hickson

Blatche
Brandon Wright
Byron Mullens

Kaman
Dalembert
Timothy Mosgov/Koufus
Tyler Hansborough
McRoberts

possibly worth more than vet min but not unlikely much more
=============================================================
JO
Chris Anderson
Kmart
Greg Oden *medium risk, high reward*
ZaZa Puchula
Greg Smith

Vet Min
======================
Chris Johnson *Twolves*
Elton Brand
Hiddadyi *could be a sleeper as well, he is a mobile C, similar to Gortat*
Ryan Hollins
Jeremy Tyler
Jerome Jordan *think he is a pretty solid 3rd string C that has improved his abilities to finish/post up/DEF/REBOUND*
Ivan Johnson/Tolliver
Petro
Darko
JJ
Nazr Mohammed

some players to target in trade that are much cheaper than Chandler
===============================================================================

Omer Asik *if D12 signs with Houston*

Gortat *probably all time low in value*

Varejo *just a complete beast that is under payed if he is healthy as a possible 20 rebounds on any given night with over 10pts, a couple steals/blocks/ and even assist
Work's extremley hard on both ends and is a bit frustrating as an opponent with his hustle

DeAndre Jordan *just can't play both Griffen and Jordan TOGETHER when they are both liabilities on the FT line, fearing hack a Griffen/Jordan strategy
KG *has a no trade clause but if Pierce is gone, I can't see KG returning*

Glen Davis

Greg Stimensa/Aaron Gray/Edoh as a cheap options

Trades/FA's that are About the same area or more in terms of salary
=============================================================================

Al Jefferson *solid double double threat but quite undersized at C, could likely range from 8m-12m at his age*

Pau Gasol only makes 6m more but is in the final year of his contract while he is light years ahead of Chandler's offensive/all round skills

D12

Bynum, interesting to see what kind of value and contract he would get

Pekovic one of the top 10-15 OFFENSIVE C's in the league with post skills
He is just very strong, not a prototypical Euro Center and he loves to bang and has good size/strength
Chandler always had problems defending him

Josh Smith *more of a PF/C than a SF in my opinion

Ok4/Nene

Bargani

McGee

These same article/writers/analyst also said Knick's would match up to 1billion dollars for Lin last summer
So DO NOT TRUST WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY
But look at all these FA and trade players to trade for, and re think if you value Tyson Chandler's 14m contract or would they more likely look for cheaper/better options?

Ask yourself what is more likely

Tyson Chandler coming back with an offensive game with the ability to post up after over 10 years + without having one

or

coming back with the same lack of skills and also be in physical decline with age/injuries in terms of speed/mobility/athleticism

????

The 14 m in salary isn't really a big deal to other teams because the salaries have to match in a trade - it just means the other team would be dumping a lot of salary on us too. It's not like we'd be asking the other team to *add* $14 mil to their payroll. Obviously it would be easier to trade him if he were paid less but I don't think it's as big a restriction as you do, especially since the deal is an expiring contract in a year.

Bonn, only player that I could think of that would fit in that category is for Perkins because he also sucks big donkeys
And even his salary is a bit more than half of what Chandler makes

at 7.8 this year, 8.4 next season, and 9.2 the final year

vs

13.6 this year, 14.1 next season, and 14.6 in the final year

I also forgot about Kris Humphries for teams looking for a rental that wouldn't require much or any assets as a salary dump at PF/C
He is probably a solid double double threat if he get's the minutes to do so

Yeah, the other team would have to include more than 1 player in the trade, or a trade exception, or it would have to be a multiple team trade.
Most likely our best option is to keep him though.

I would go as low as 2 2nd round picks depending on what pick it is, and what else comes back with it *prefer a trade exemption over a bad contract*

Prefer? You wouldn't even demand a trade exception? You'd trade him just for 2 2nd round picks and a really bad overpaid player?

Regarding your other point, here is a list of players you could easily match salary wise with Tyson:
