Kudo's to the knicks to getting thru a mentally tough series. For all the talk about "blowing it" the mental mountain they had to climb which they had the superior talent to do so, but the toughness that is boston led by a trio of vets was not as easy as fans might have anticipated. Even with a 3-0 lead!

Melo and Smith have first round demons to slay and while they did not bring their finest out, it s process they had to go thru if they are to succeed this season, and perhaps in the future in the playoffs.

Another point is of interest to me is the realization that for many, me including, perhaps that Melo as Knugget I was not a fan of prior to the trade. JR has been a bone head most of his career and Kenyan a dreaded obnoxious foe. Even RashWeed while respected was never a favorite of mine. What Im getting to is our kNicks are not home grown and perhaps to many fans deep down not finding them particularly likable but because they are knicks we root for them and accepted.

Its why some have clung on to Lee, Gallo, Wilson and Lin as they were ours. Amare, Melo and JR among others cut their rep in other places.

Last nite losing the lead and the previous game an anger demonstrated in the forum thread where "fire woodson" and "blow it up" was kind of extreme. We question the sub patterns as if we don't realize that Shump is going all out and needed a breather. We question the rotations, we question who brings the ball up, we were fans panicking!

I think the bottom line is many of us are life long knick fans and really do care but perhaps the underlying lack of deep love is the starphuch nature of how this team is constructed.

I read a few guys suggesting they'd take on KG or Pierce. First off the salary considerations are not even doable but I can't fathom taking on KG or pierce and rooting for them. There is a line.

It appears we as fans love shump (homegrown) and have taken to Felton as he is stepping up and earning his cred as a knick.

Maybe I love my knicks but this group thru and thru has some players to really like, and others we WANT TO LIKE because they wear the orange and blue!

In any event last nite was a big break thru. Melo and JR are not exactly the strongest mentally and that was a big test. It has been ugly at times but the end result was they passed.

They expectations for a 2 to beat a 7 was their. This 7th seed was a mind phuch for them. They got thru it........"Break on thru to the other side".........

Lets hope they have a better time with Indy.

I hear ya Nolad...I can't be so loyal to the home grown talent because I couldn't see them taking us anywhere..People here rejoice at the fact the were got to playing .500 ball and gave kudos to the young talent..But it was Amare and Felton balling their hearts out...There is nothing like the experience of last night..Playoff basketball throughout the league, the intensity...Zebo versus the Clippers, The Almost brawl in Houston before OKC triumph..U can't tell me watching Gallo mature is better than last night...I can't be so attached to home grown if it means losing...KG and Pierce in Knick uni's is definitely a No No...

I think NBA cred is made in the playoffs...I don't look at Garnett as a Timberwolf...He is a Celtic...Oakley became a Knick...Zo isn't a Hornet, He is a Heat player...We embraced Derrick Harper playing in key playoff battles for us... Melo could become a Knick if he takes us to the promise land...JR the same ...Felton the same...ONE LOVE..

Im not advocating the loyalty. Just that some like the players because they are fans.

Im never convinced if the trade don't go down that team from two years ago is cemented for eternity and we never make a move to improve. Too much time and too much creativity would have to come up with alternatives.

Maybe thats why denver is such a sore subject as "that could have been us", a young team with other parts added and well coached to a 57 win season.

Maybe thats why some relish there elimination as a confirmation that "we did the right thing".

its an old argument and Im must speaking to the intensity to which it is perpetuated.

This is NY and stars much be had to be sell it. I get it, but until there is a result its been debated.
It would appear the benchmark has been Denver and exceeding them gives us some sort of validation to the homers to take to the hater.

Bottom line is this team would not be just as we left it before the trade.

One series won. Time to celebrate? Not yet. Its a season in progress still.

I avoid posting after a loss to avoid overreacting just like that. I give myself a day or so to allow the emotional adrenalin to fade and perspective to set back in.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

DurzoBlint - you are wise. One game does not determine a seven game series.

The immediate frustration behind one loss generates multiple panic threads. We are toast. Our team is fatally flawed and the wheels are coming off faster than a homemade scooter. The ship be sunk and our world is about to end.

Yawn.

At the same level one might refrain from posting after win to prevent irrational exuberance?

Regarding losses, its usually best to not read every new thread that blasts the team. My favorites are the ones where "we need to get youtier players who........."

Yes, until they most ardent homer starts calling out anyone who ever doubted the team and boasts that "they knew" as if they discovered the knicks themselves!

You left out the specific 5 or 6 "Please blow it up now!" threads, with miles of strat-o-metrics to back up the argumments.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Lil JR ambles out into the glaring light of the playoffs and farts at mid court. The ball goes in too late, and Woody tries to stifle a smile, forcing himself to remember this is the boy who had the bench flailing around in towel waving frenzies during most of the regular season. The mixed aromas of Dos Equis and Coronas still waft over in the air, which most people didn't bother to sniff during those highlight JR games. Woody knows better; while most people attributed the smells to JKidd, he knows--try to rein the boy in, and he'll only go off the deepend. JR does not an eagle scout suddenly make.

Melo, despite the brand new patch for his warmup, mouths the words division champs, 50 wins, check please... and fights off the blurry visions of TD and LaFields on the perimeter, when it's actually Shump and Priggy... It will take time, but he will see KMart and Tyson under the rim in this Indy series, once Woody spends enough time making him practice his j with a lifesize Hibbert cutout taped to his face. Woody will slowly convince his chief starphucque that all he needs to do is get 10 assists in a few games, and the now nearly defunct N*yets will fold in his honor, and turn that disgusting building into the new Knicks Brooklyn practice facility. Once Jimmie pays to get that Nate-puke-stained parquet floor removed and replaced with something respectable. Coach scratches his beard reflectively...maybe they can dig up the floorboards from the old Armory...

Woody watches carefully as Iman runs controlled drills, not quite dispelling the memories of watching this freak athlete cramp like a pearl diver on crack as well as seeing that knee implode in slow motion. "Got to be careful, my son. Getting hurt doesn't help my long term job security."

Very good things are on the way...

this is the art of finding the proper balance ..... like balance and stability is important for building a team ... if the decision was upon some posters, most of the players would have been traded several times this year (from the Knicks or to the Knicks or both way), the coach fired and re-hired, sometimes on a day-to-day basis

and believe me, I am very frustrated when the Knicks don't show up in a loss like yesterday, but I still think they can turn this thing around by winning tomorrow and stealing a game in Indy

Funny, we actually got to watch a few minutes of the first half, and that's all my 12 year old daughter could talk about. "Daddy, is he sick or something that he has to have his hair like that?"

"break on thru to the other side.............."
