GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- J.R. Smith thinks the New York Knicks would have swept the Boston Celtics if he had been playing in Game 4 of the division rivals' playoff series.

"Oh yeah, it would've been over," Smith said after Tuesday's practice. "I'd have been playing golf today."

The NBA suspended Smith for Game 4 after the star guard threw an elbow at Jason Terry's chin late in Game 3.

Smith watched on television Sunday as the Celtics defeated the Knicks 97-90 in overtime to avoid elimination and extend the series. Smith also watched Terry score nine points in overtime.

Asked about Terry on Tuesday, Smith said, "Who? I don't even know who that is."

The Knicks' bench scored just seven points in the loss, a clear indication that they were hurt by Smith's absence. Carmelo Anthony shot just 10-for-35 and seemed to miss Smith, who draws attention from opposing defenders.

"It was very tough to watch," Smith said. "Especially that first half. I mean, from the turnovers to missing shots. ... It wasn't the easiest thing ever.

"I wasn't pleased with it. My teammates wasn't either. I'll get the chance to make up for it tomorrow."

The Knicks can close out Boston in Game 5 on Wednesday and win their first postseason series since 2000.

"It's a must," Smith said of Game 5. "We're playing at our building. We're planning on not losing any games at our building, so I mean we've got to get this thing over as fast as we can so we can get (Jason Kidd) his rest, Melo his rest, and get prepared for the next series."

Smith, the NBA's Sixth Man Award winner, would not offer his opinion on the one-game suspension.

"I can't really say what my reaction was," he said. "It won't be good for me or my team."

Smith said he learned a lesson from his suspension.

"Yeah, don't throw elbows," he said.

I dont mind JR saying that. One reason si because its the truth. If JR was there it would of been a sweep. The second reason is because The Celtics have gotten awfully arrogant after winning 1 lucky game. jason terry is talking a lot of trash. I cant wait until we end ther season tomorrow

Nothing wrong with what he said in my opinion. The Knicks played their worst half in awhile and still went to o t in Boston in a game where the Celts would have been eliminated and swept on their home court. I think this is over tomorrow night.

The only way this becomes a STFU moment is IF he doesn't show up tonight. We get the win, the Jr should feel free to run his mouth. Amare's STFU moment came because he didn't come back and put his money where his mouth was.

Gotta agree here just shut up and play. He certainly is channeling is inner John Starks. I remember in '94 Starks bringing his golf clubs with him to Houston to the finals and the coaching staff getting on him.

Would rather J.R let his game do the talking like he has all season. Combine this with his ejection and it hasn't been a good week for Smith.

I really hope he doesn't doesn't talk like this for the rest of the playoffs assuming we advance, because other teams will be in a better position to use his words as bulletin board material.

Amar'e, J.R. and any other idiot on this roster that wants to give stupid guarantee, STFU!!!!!!

I don't care if you bring it or not, because when you do stupid things like this you usually don't or can't back it up, so respect the freaking game, the opponent and let your game talk.

After this pathetic excuse of a Game 5, whoever makes a stupid guarantee like this and play as terrible as they did tonight deserve to be suspended by the team itself.

Can't stand how immature this team is when they lose focus.
