Cap room of about 47m to 48m
Full MLE of about 5m
Bi Annual Exemption of a little over 2m

Free Agents
=================

1- RFA- Splitter with qualifying offer of 4.93 mill (which I included on payroll) coming off his rookie contract

2- UFA Ginobli

3- Player option, Patty Mills
4- RFA, Gary Neal
5- DeJuan Blair
6- Aron Baines

7- Boris Diaw player option of 4.7m which he probably will NOT opt out of

They have the ability to sign 3 of our players in and keep Splitter who I think is SA's best FA because of Manu's injuries
They can still keep Manu with his bird rights but he would have to take a huge pay cut in order to do so
But with the games he has missed these past couple of years in addition to his age, I think a deal of about 4m or under is quite fair

JR Smith
Kmart
Copeland (fits very well with SA)
Heck, they can even sign Pablo if they wanted too

JR Smith to a multi year deal starting at about 8m for 4 years (as Manu's replacement but not impossible to keep Manu and sign JR to a cap friendly deal)
Copeland/Kmart with Bi Annual Exemption/Cap room and is a perfect in a TEAM game, playing off Parker's penetration in addition to Duncan's abilities for both Cope and Kmart

Gary Neal and Patty Mills are good/very solid players but not a need for SA to resign with the development of Nando De Colo with many solid vet min backup PG's available

These moves would make them contenders for the next couple of years and be under the tax bracket, so very efficient team in terms of salary
Of course Poppavich and his coaching staff would be great and can also keep JR with tough love/discipline, like Woodson
He can start or come off the bench as well on this team, while he has the talent to be a starter on majority of the teams in the league
Is JR ready to give up NYC night life?
If SA is willing to give Chris Smith a roster spot with guaranteed money, 1 year deal would likely be enough if 2 years *I think it is a done deal*

Copeland and Kmart would be perfect with their skills and what they bring to their table

Kmart's experience/DEF/toughness/rebound/high IQ/fundamentals/PnR/energy hustle
Copeland can play the stretch 5 with much more skills *than Bonner* in posting/handle at the 5 to penetrate, while Duncan can cover him defensively at the 4

Ginobili and Pablo are good friends and would not be surprised if Ginobili recruits him while retiring as a Spur at a cap friendly deal
Pablo would also be a solid back up to have that plays within the system as well but there are many backup PG's they can go after
His greatest impact is on players that move well off the ball with shooters, TEAM players, high IQ, sharing the basketball, and a solid post presence in Duncan

I hope we are capable of keeping these players and I think Kmart is the most important piece in addition to JR Smith but if it cost us the 3m MLE to keep him, it would really hurt our chances on improving the team

To replace JR, we need Iman to develop and hopefully roll the dice on Brandon Rush for expirings since Warriors have grown to be contenders while Jack is a UFA while right at the tax bracket
With Brandon Rush (4m final year) of the Warriors is a target I would go after with expirings, 3m cash, and a future 2nd round pick with our junk non guaranteed contracts in

White
Q
Earl Barron *might have to keep if we lose Kmart while targeting vet min players like Birdman, Chris Johnson (Twolves), Ryan Hollins, Ivan Johnson, Tolliver, Greg Stimenss, etc*
Brewer's trade exemption

If they decide to not keep Splitter and/or JR Smith, they can go after Josh Smith or Pekovic *going back to bully old school ball*

maybe I am worry about the future to early since we still have a Title to chase
but these guys are very important to our success this year
SA is perfect in the sense that they do not over pay for talent and it in "how to build/keep talent on a team" with the new CBA

This is why Briggs and a couple of us have been looking to unload Tyson Chandler to a team that is under the cap that can absorb his contract
While not seeking a 1st rounder but to go under the cap/tax bracket so we can get the full MLE to use, possibly the bi annual exemption, a 2nd round pick, and most importantly, the trade exemption to use to keep JR Smith

Maybe it is not full value for Chandler back but we just have very limited assets that we can use in trades due to be over the tax bracket
only

Melo
Iman
Chandler

have value in addition to our limited picks, since we cannot participate in S&T's...

I think Portland is our best possible trading partner since they want a real C to team up with Alridge if they are planning NOT to rebuild and be contenders
They can trade us Hickson in addition too, so that we can get his bird rights
Would we be willing to add the rights to our 1st round pick as well?
If we keep Hickson, we will likely lose the chance to get the full 5m MLE and the BAE though

Spurs will have to use their cap space to retain their own players.

Knicks need to unload Chandler because he is overpaid.

RonRon ...as always I appreciate the research

Like you I always think of the present AND the future. Yes, I worry about the spurs because they have LOTS of cap space (what other teams have cap space)

I agree that Tyson should be traded while his stock is still high (im think hes gonna fall badly next yr and in the future; dude is breaking down). however, i dont think he WILL be traded. Dolan and crew are proud of signing tyson and wont trade him away (even though they should)

In regards to JR, i dont think hes a Pop type of player but then again SJackson wasnt either (oh wait a second?!). i think what will keep JR here is: starting him and paying him at the back end of a 4 yr contract

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

JR at what price is what will determine a lot. SJax pre CBA got paid about 10mm a year. I think thats a good price for JR. His talent is worth max kind of money but he comes with baggage.

5 mil this yr and next and then backload the contract at 10mil/yr for two yrs

next yr = 5
next next yr = 5
3rd yr = 10
4th yr = 10 (age 30)

4yr deal/30mil

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better
