Man In The Middle
Martin regained his form immediately, leaping to challenge shots, giving hard fouls and finishing with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Chandler still seemed limited by his neck injury. He played just 21 minutes, none in the fourth quarter, and finished with 5 rebounds and no points. - Howard Beck, NYT
Tyson Chandler is clearly out of sync. Either rust never sleeps, or the bulging disk in his neck will continue to be a problem. He didn't attempt a shot in the first half and mishandled a Felton pass in the paint.
Kenyon Martin is a superior offensive threat and can black a shot when needed. Nearly a double double machine. He and Carmelo have chemistry and the earned equity of being former teammates.
Mike Woodson appears to relish the moment he can go to Earl Smith (game changer), Martin (multiple contributions), Kidd (who played 30 minutes) and even Steve Novak (who was invisible on offense in game one). Our starters are adequate. Our bench is hard to handle. When Carmelo sits, the offense does not suffer. In fact, sometimes, it gets movin and groovin.
Fun Fact: The Knicks' bench outscored Boston's 33-4.
