NBA announces anti-flopping rules for playoffs
From Official release
Posted Apr 18, 2013 2:12 PM
NEW YORK -- The NBA has set the league's anti-flopping disciplinary schedule to be used during the 2013 Playoffs, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations Stu Jackson announced today.

"Flopping" is defined as any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player. The primary factor in determining whether a player committed a flop is whether his physical reaction to contact with another player is inconsistent with what would reasonably be expected given the force or direction of the contact.
The NBA's anti-flopping rule, adopted at the beginning of the 2012-13 season, had 24 violations during the 2012-13 regular season. Fourteen players received warnings while five players received a $5,000 fine for violating the anti-flopping rule twice.
Physical acts that constitute legitimate basketball plays (such as moving to a spot in order to draw an offensive foul) and minor physical reactions to contact are not deemed to be flops.
Any player who is determined to have committed a flop during the 2013 Playoffs will be subject to the following:
Violation 1: $5,000 fine
Violation 2: $10,000 fine
Violation 3: $15,000 fine
Violation 4: $30,000 fine
If a player violates the anti-flopping rule five times or more, he will be subject to discipline that is reasonable under the circumstances, including an increased fine and/or suspension.

5 times or more? Why not just suspend them right off the bat so they dont wanna take the chance doing it?
Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

Expect a scrub to get fined and possibly a starter to get warned. I don't think anything else will happen.

This rule clearly does nothing but put in the players heads not to flop. Because the new rules are in place I can imagine that players really don't want to be made fun of due to flopping.

Someone making 20,000,000 a year, a $5000.00 fine would be .025%
If you make 50,000 a year, a .025% fine would be $12.50!

Good job NBA!

Good news. Article ranked the biggest floppers in any sport and 3 players on the Heat made the top ten. Guess who made number 1?

This is a publicity stunt. Does anyone really think that if the Heat don't win it, the reason will be this? Eh eh. They wont punish the Heat for jack squad.

Does anyone really think the reason they won it last year was because of flopping?

hypothetical question:

Would you rather our favorite team not flop and lose?

or...

Flop and win?

All within the context of the rules of course.

I find that one where Lebron ran backwards into Tyson hilarious (didn't at the time!), because Lebron starts flopping, then in mid flop suddenly realizes that it did actually hurt.

If this is supposed to be our era's Jordan and the Heat equivalent to the Bulls, things have gone south in basketball.

The guy may be the most talented and dominant player, yet shows how distant he is from Jordan mentally with those embarrassing flops.

I so hope we get the chance and beat them.
