Scoring title that is, unless Durant scores about 70 points in their last game as a meaningless game for position for playoffs

Lets hope he leads us to the promised land while he is at it
If he does, I see no reason for him not OPTING out next year and demanding a max 5 year deal, following the fate of Joe Johnson/Allan Houston for this franchise
In addition to losing JR, Copeland, and Martin in FA

1 year of glory vs 10 years of pain while we have suffered 40 years of doom

Bro, OMG,

dig this up, i called that he would win the scoring title, i think it was on another knicks forum, i'll find this for you,

called it, i knew the environment was designed to bring the best out of him, this was dolan's and gm's goal, to surround with pieces that would allow melo to thrive,

and i agree with this approach if you already got melo here, he's gifted, which means he's unique, i am learning more about my own giftedness, melo is gifted in sports, which puts him in the same very small percentage of the planet that is extra intelligent in some dimension,

given this background, my view is that melo should be, has to be, treated in a special way and some of his weak points have to be forgiven or at least understood through this perspective of extra intelligence, or giftedness,

the trick is to tune melo's environment so that his strengths will be allowed to dominate without obstruction, this is why d'antoni had to go,

so i think because the knicks did this, we have his best maybe season in the nba ever, at least bucket dropping-wise, and that's really what he's all about, scoring for you,

if we keep nurturing melo, this post-season to look at the short view, but also beyond this season if we take the long view, i think that we will eventually be assured a high level of success; this can be manifested in several deep playoff pushes, maybe a finals appearance, and not necessarily a championship, although our chances to win a championship are more favorable than they have been since the last great gift we had

very happy for melo

but i remember a season when they boosted david robinson's scoring average by feeding him for something wild like 60 or 50 or was it 70 points in the last game of the season so that he would win the scoring title,

is okc beyond that? i think so, i don't see shananigans like this going on though it's interesting to kick around,

it's interesting because there is a precedent, and at the least it reminds you of the old days when david robinson and that generation was king, which is always good: to remember those that came before today

to be honest, i feel that i'm pandering to the fanbase here,

my intuition is that melo will not lead us anywhere, and i'm sticking with this, for everything i've listed millions of times before,

but it's always a good exercise to take the other view and make a case

I doubt he takes more when he opts out. I bet he will take make a Cap friendly deal. I just hope by next year All-star game he will have three new patches.

Well I think he does at least one more to go along with the scoring title patch(is that a patch?) anyway a championship patch would look nice.

Is the caps on ME of Melo means he's a selfish player?!!

How dare he go for the scoring title this season, that self centered ballhog!

That said, it's a great individual accomplish to even lead the league once. Now he can truly be compared to another great Knick, Bernard King, in the same sentence.

Now let's go chase the more important trophy...the Golden Shiny Ball!!!

What sort of cap-friendly deal are you thinking of? Looking at our salary situation I think he'd have to take $10M/year paycut to make any sort of difference and even then we're only talking about being able to use the full MLE and LLE.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Well some things could be better for the Cap by then. Camby will be going into his Non-fully guaranteed 3rd year. Who knows where Kidd will be and there could be some more players traded. It really just depends.

^^^ This....It's weird how our best player always get bacjhanded compliments. I remember when I called Melo an elite scorer and compared him to Bernard and Dantley and was was ripped because he he never won a scoring title so 'how dare I compare him to the original King of NY'. Well, barring something crazy, he should win his first scoring title this yare and join an exclusive group of players who have NBA scoring titles on thier mantle....Good for him

Winning the scoring title might be along the lines of RA Dickey getting the CY Young... or Reyes getting the batting title... except we get to keep Carmelo for a few more years. :)

It's not a title, but it gives us something to cheer about. If you're going to be known as a scorer, you SHOULD first and foremost hold the scoring title at some point in your career to show you're the best at what you do.

We know Carmelo is not the complete player that Lebron is. And we can live with that, because 29 other teams don't have that luxury either. But we certainly have one of the top 5-7 players in the NBA right now, and that gives us a chance. What's outstanding about having the #2 seed is that we won't be facing any of those other top guns until the Conference Finals, if we make it that far.

The Celtics used to have 2 of those guys, but Garnett and Pierce are now top 15-20 players at this stage of their careers.

And when he gets the patch on his warmup, Melo will still not measure up to all the "real" top 5 players.

28 of the 30 scoring champions in NBA history have been or will be hall of famers. With the exception of T-Mac (who I don't think will be in the hall due to injury cutting his potential short)and Max Zaslofsky (1948), everyone else is either there or on their way (i.e. Wade, Kobe, Lebron, Durant, Shaq etc).

It's a very good time to have a player of Carmelo Anthony's caliber on our team. It's a good era for the Knicks right now.

So true. It is a damn shame about Amare because a Melo, Amare and Chandler frontline can go really deep into the playoffs.

Kevin Durant must score 70 points against MIL tomorrow to win scoring title, assuming Carmelo Anthony sits out vs. ATL. (via @ESPNStatsInfo)

I hope the starters play roughly 15-20mins. Don't want to sit out a whole week prior to the playoffs. Last thing we need is for Melo to cool off and another 1st rd sweep because no one else picks up the slack

It sounded like Woodson was planning on playing them when he spoke after last nights game.
