We are a PG away from winning a title within the next 3 years. Hopefully everyone is convinced we don't need to blow it up, which was flooding this board before the streak. I was wrong in thinking Felton could be that guy. He is getting killed by way too many good guards. Smith will solidify himself as an allstar and second option like amare was supposed to and Tyson and shump will keep the D solid. The bench will continue to be upgraded but we really need a new PG for next season in order to close the gap with Miami. Maybe Felton can come up big in the playoffs but at this point I just don't think he will ever be good enough to say he's the answer at PG.

Felton could play PG more effectively in LOW dosages, he has been more sucessfull playing SG
He cannot defend PG's because of his big bones and go through the picks
Neither can Pablo or Kidd

Felton's lack of IQ, ability to run a team, and inability to defend PG's will show come play off time, he has been able to keep this down with Pablo starting
Kidd is no longer a PG, NOT a penetration threat, cannot defend most PG's and many SG's, and is not a good PnR PG at his age
Pablo can run the PnR, also a good facilitator, but not much of a penetration threat and moves at 5mph at max speed, and also cannot defend PG's

so no one in a "3 headed" PG trio can actually defend the position and have inabilities to run a team but they make Melo happy and do not steal his highlights
2 of them play SG more effectively than PG

If Pablo can play PG while Felton plays SG efficiently/effectively, I cannot see why Lin could not have played PG, and been much better than what Pablo brings on both ends

Hmm, struggling to see where this is coming from- Felton has been great lately. He's not an allstar, he's an average PG, but during the winning streak he's hit a load of timely hoops, just when we needed them. He's been a big contributor to the 11 wins.

People spent the late 90s saying we were a point guard away, and in doing so overlooked how much Childs and Ward contributed to those teams. I look on Felton as that kind of player. You really don't need an elite PG to win a championship in the NBA- very few championship teams had a PG who was significantly better than Felton.

Felton's been averaging about 4 assists a game since returning and getting killed by his man.
He's been an adequate role player but not great or good.

Knix is saying we're a PG away from winning the title. So the plan, you're saying, is to draft a PG late in the first round who as a rookie or sophomore will carry us to a title? I'd give that about a 1 in 200 chance of happening.

For most of this season I've had no problem with Pablo deferring as much as he has because this team really needs players who can keep the ball moving. He's been passing up shots all season but usually it was to someone with an equal or better look. Lately Pablo is starting to pass the ball to teammates who don't have as good a look as he does. Be it off the dribble or standing still.

I wouldn't call it a major problem since we're obviously on a roll, but when the playoffs come around Pablo is going to have to look for his shot more often. Same goes with Kidd. At the start of the season, I thought that by the playoffs that Kidd would be driving more regularly. He's taking it to the rim a little more lately but he can't stop there. I don't expect Kidd and Pablo to be inside threats in the playoffs, frequently taking the ball to the rim, but they have to keep the defense honest. If they don't the better defensive teams are going to exploit that weakness when the playoffs come around.

Felton has been somewhat of a disappointment on the defensive end, however to be fair, the fact that Felt is sharing pg duties with Prigs is a contributing factor to the dip in his asts....

Question is where are we getting one? It would be nice if a guy like Ty Lawson, who was picked 18th, fell to us in the draft but we obviously can't rely on that. We can't do sign-and-trades in the offseason because we're too far over the cap so we'd have to try and sign someone outright with our $3M MLE. If Calderon were a few years older I'd think he might be willing to take a paycut to play for a contender but he's probably looking at his last big payday and I would imagine that's a hard thing to give up. And we don't really have any trade assets. Melo and Tyson are pretty much untouchable obviously. If JR opts out and we resign him he'd be a nice asset but I don't know that anything we'd receive back would be able to replace him. Shumpert's a nice player but I don't know what his value is around the league.

Our best hope to bring in a better PG would probably be to wait until 2014/15 and attempt to trade Amare's expiring contract for someone good.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

Yeah. He's playing hard and his shot selection has been good. I'm not blaming him or disappointed in him. He's doing all that you could reasonably expect from him. You still can't use the word "great" to describe him though.

Even if we did get the next Ty Lawson, he only averaged 8 points, 3 assists as a rookie. By the time he's a sophomore, Melo and Tyson will be in their eleventh and thirteenth seasons. If this group is gonna win a championship, it's probably gonna be this year, possibly next year, or otherwise never.

Eh, the dip in assists happened started back in February before when he averaged 4.9/game.

Which coincides with his dip in minutes from Feb to March. I should've been clearer in my first post. Felton's dip in assists started in Feb before Prigioni became a starter and has continued. His dip in production is right in line with he's done during his career.

It will be tough to get this player but you never know who could become available in a salary dump in the next couple of years. We could still very well win a title with Felton, but my point is that is the starting position we are more vulnerable at and need an upgrade for a sustainable contender.

I'm not sure what you mean. He played 33 mpg in March. He did have 2 more mpg in Feb but that's hardly a huge difference. The extra 2 min might have gotten him 0.1 more assists a game.

Felton just got through shooting 50% overall from the field and 40% from 3 in March. His D has been o.k. to me.

I think we're agreeing. I don't think either of us attributes Felton's drop in production to Prigioni.
