well...James is gonna be the MVP and rightfully so...but yeah Melo's closing the gap this season between the two (and James hasn't declined even slightly).

Had the Knicks not have had so many injuries and subsequently a better record he might have had a chance, but no I don't think he has a chance of being MVP this season as much as I'd love him to.

He's definitely in the "elite of the elite" bracket now though.

In many web pages he actually has. I know the 27 wins streak and all will weigh heavily in people's minds and the award will go again to James (boring) but Melo deserves to be in the battle.

Whats also pretty cool about melo's scoring tear, teams are so scared to get beat by the 3 ball, or a cutting Kmart/tyson that there not even doubling him with any regularity. Then there's the pull up jumper, how do you double that..

Can't wait til sunday

KD/Westbrook Vs MELO/JR

Shump Vs Martin

Kmart Vs Ibaka

Tyson/Perkins

There is no MVP race. LeBron should win unanimously and anybody who doesn't vote for him is an idiot.

Melo is having his best year as a pro and the rest of the team is a good fit for his skill set, so hopefully there's a deep playoff run.

so if he avgs 40 and we win out, that doesn't make it a tough decision. LBJ has been pretty damn good, but melo has to start turning some heads at this point.

a 3 game stretch doesn't put you in the MVP race. His FG% in most of March was in the .300s and he had twice as many turnovers as assists. We have to just hope he does has lots of outlier performances like the last 3 games in the playoffs. Don't get your hopes up for an MVP award, though.

First of all you have to look at the team record.
As good of a player as Rose is, he didn't outperform LeBron stat-wise or anything like that, he won the MVP because the Bulls had a better record.
Parker by stats alone shouldn't be in the top 3 or 4 candidates, but the Spurs being so good puts him in there.

I think Melo's more than good enough to build a legitimate case for the MVP award, however the Knicks as a team would have to do better, let's not beat around the bush here we have been one of the most banged up teams in the league this season, had the Knicks managed to stay healthy and subsequently win more games I don't think there would be any talk of MVP outside of LeBron, Melo and Durant. (but again, at this point in time you have to be a terrific player on a terrific team (one that has a better record than LeBron's team) in order to win an MVP award, because his monster stats are tough if not impossible to beat 1v1)

The discussion ended a long time ago.

melo is having a great season. Knick fans should be happy.

At the very best he would be voted third, but there is a big gap from no. 1, and no. 2

Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

Lebron has 2 other alstars in his camp. Remember the DEAL that was made. Melo is playing with an injured team. He is putting this team on his back and winning.

I think Lebron has this pretty much sewn up. Melo is having one of the best seasons a Knick has ever had. That's good enough for me.

Lebron put up the same #s on a team with NBDL players. His performance has little to do with his teammates. Here are some #s to ponder:

2 point FG%: 60% (LBJ), 54% (KD), 47% (Melo - CA)
3 point %: 40 (LBJ), 41% (KD), 38% (CA)
Assists: 7.3 (LBJ), 4.4 (KD), 2.6 (CA)
Rbs: 8.1 (LBJ), 7.9 (KD), 6.5 (CA)
Blocks: 0.9 (LBJ), 1.3 (KD), 0.5 (CA)
Stls: 1.7 (LBJ), 1.4 (KD), 0.8 (CA)

The 2 point FG% is probably the most important # because these guys are each taking about fifteen 2 pointers a game. It shouldn't be too hard to tel who is out of place in this group.

Still does not take away from the level of play and there record.

Lebron being with his superfriends has no bearing on Melo and the great season he is having. Its a different conversation.

No, and it's not even close. The only way Lebron might not win his 4th MVP in 5 years is if he sits out most of the rest of the season and Durant goes on a tear and OKC finishes 1st in the West. No one else is even in the discussion.
Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come
