Danilo Gallinari suffered a left knee injury during a Thursday night game between the Nuggets and Mavericks in Denver. The Nuggets announced that the Italian forward will undergo an MRI on Friday, but provided no additional specifics as to the severity or nature of the injury.

With a little more than four minutes remaining in the second quarter and the Mavericks leading 38-35, Gallinari attacked the paint going to his left but appeared to come up lame as he planted to attempt a shot in traffic. Gallinari hopped off the court, avoiding putting any weight on his left leg, while holding his left knee in evident pain.
Denver’s training staff immediately attended to him and he was taken off the court on a wheelchair. He departed with nine points (on three-for-seven shooting), one rebound and one assist in 16 minutes.

Gallinari, 24, is the Nuggets’ second-leading scorer, averaging 16.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. The No. 6 pick in the 2008 draft is in the first year of a four-year contract worth $42 million.

Denver entered Thursday night with a record of 51-24, good for third-best in the Western Conference.

No contact knee injury. Wouldn't be surprised if acl is torn it looked similar to DRose and Shumpert last year

Wow. The guy can't catch a break. He has looked great this year and it seemed like he had turned the corner and was going to finally avoid the injury bug.

A source told me that Gallo "heard a pop" in his knee. That's not good.

Sucks for Gallo. Never hated the kid, just hated that he was always hurt it seems.

Denver seemed like the perfect place for him to thrive. OH well.

Hope it's not as bad as people are worried that it is. Get well soon, Gallo.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Ouch! Reminds me of Shumpert's injury last year. Denver is officially screwed.

Sucks- hope it isn't an ACL tear and he's back soon. I really hate injuries. Teams battle hard all year only to lose their major players just before the playoffs.

Watch the horrific replay, that is an ACL tear... I don't even want to post that gif...

Just terrible for Denver. He was soooo much more than his stats for that team. After he was out it was a close game against Dallas

The thing I worried about with Gallo is that when he drives his steps are kind of hard and awkward. If you watch the replay it was an injury waiting to happen. When you come down hard like that and at an angle it is a waiting game.

I really wanted to see Denver in the playoffs, but Brewer is no replacement for the Cock...

He's a good kid and a really good, intelligent basketball player. I sure hope he's back soon.

Is it me or are acl injuries on the rise. During the 90's I can't remember any of our players suffering Acl tears. There were more strains the tears..

What gives?

Could be a combination of things - more strenuous workouts, possibly higher use of steroids (they weaken ligaments and joints), style of play, and other factors.

Who knows, but it is becoming increasingly more common as you said.

Maybe having longer regular- and post-seasons is a factor too. Plus some of these guys are then playing in the Olympics.

completely agree

there should a shorter season, less teams in the playoffs, and a concentration in excellence as opposed to quantity. It's like that Domino's commercial where the CEO is shaking his head at the 'more! faster!' way the company used to run. People like quality. I imagine quanitty mattered more when I couldn't access anything at any time from my phone

as for the injuries, just watched the Bo Jackson 30 for 30. The doctors thought the reason he dislocated his hip was because he was so much stronger than everyone else. Your ACL/MCL directly support some of the largest muscles in the human body. The muscles are a lot bigger today than they were previously To be Gallo's height and have his strength and to be driving down the lane hard - it's a lot for a tendon to endure

that would be less profitable though. The owners probably wish it was a longer season.

I don't follow those two sports closely but my understanding is that the NFL has been steadily increasing the number of teams that play in the playoffs - from 1 post-season game for 2 teams in 1933 to four rounds of 12 teams now.

If it is an ACL tear then maybe he returns next season with his 3 point shooting back to where it was in his 2nd season with us (weird how he just kind of lost it). Long term he should be fine, just a shame its such a long rehab process. Terrible timing for it to happen though. I think Denver should be okay with Wilson Chandler picking up the slack in the meantime.
