Damn Carmelo, Must You Take 30 Shots To Be Happy?

10-30 is not a good shooting night. Yes, we won and few teams have an answer for our Kobe-clone (insert snide remarks here) JR Smith, but damn ... Thirty shots on an off night?

Dude, we get it. You are gifted, "strong like bull" and able to get any shot you want. But 10-30 will not get us past Miami, or Boston for that matter, in the playoffs. You need to trust your running buddies just a skootch more.

Pablo is initiating uptempo ball movement, Raymond is learning the joy of attacking off the dribble, Kenyon is swooping and hooping. Even Steve Novak is looking more crisp these days. You think Shump has been putting in all that work to stand around and watch you go solo?

We have men who can be trusted to keep the ball moving and even give it back to you every now and then. Look for them. Dribbling into triple teams with your head down is so last season.

Pass the ball.

Sincerely,

The Answer Man

he is what he is. Shooting the ball is the only way he knows how to help his team. You just hope more go in than miss. If you cant stand guys who go 10-30 you need to build around a different player. This is Melo's team. He's gonna shoot as much as he feels like

Loved the result of last nites game, but it was not a good one to watch.

Melo and JR.........Over and over. A lot of Iso ball going on.

Its one way to win. Some wins are better than others. Boston looked cooked. Never thought I'd miss KG on the court!

Melo don't pass no ball! Not every win has to be a work of art.

Maybe he exacted revenge for "Honey Nut"?

My thoughts exactly, he knows no other way to play, even if he wants to pass, he can't because he feels by shooting he helped his team. We know that 4 or 5 of your attemps are you rebounding your own miss under the rim, but shooting 33% is unforgiven..

The game should never, ever be about personal revenge. If revenge is the motive, simply drop the gloves before the opening tip and embrace the extra time in the penalty box.

Basketball is not personal.

"Basketball is, and will always be, about buckets."

The most direct path to buckets is via team assists.

It's strictly business

Mr Earl,

Melo is doing what his coach is asking him to.

Shooters shoot.

Lets talk labels here. Your being "Openly" critical of Melo so were do we go from here?

You hating on him or his game? A lot of posters here have been labeled "hater" for being critical of his game in the same vein you are.

Of course Mr. earl is far to complex to attach just one label on, after all you'd need your own category just to start!

Respectfully yours,

Nalod

So well said here sir.

So many others try and articulate the same message and fall on their faces in their attempt to be objective. It's called " HAVING A FAN BALANCE "

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

To the most respected and dearly beloved HolyMoobySaviour,

Please pay no attention to the Answer Man. We all know your worth, Melo. We (and I'm speaking for most of the Homer fan contingent) all know we'd rather have you with the ball in your warm hands at the end of the game after shooting 40% or even 30% then holding our breath hoping JR catches some rim with the last second step back. While you've been getting cold watching others shoot and miss.

We all know Johnny "Crisp" Novak is not to be trusted at big spots at this point in his fledgling career. Give the boy a few more seasons. Provided he doesn't get some stupidly ridiculous contract from Charlotte or the Jazz or some such thing.

We all know you've spent two very long seasons here trying things like trusting people like Fishlips. We understand, that at times, you see RayRay and no one can fault you for having Toney Douglas flashbacks.

Thankfully, there's really no one on this squad that could even bring a shuddering thought of Landry Fields to your mind's eye. KMart is ugly, but we all know, and you as well, that he's efficient. Efficency, however, is nice in accounting. You aren't an accountant, you are a scorer. Continue to be all that you can be. You am that you am!

Keep shooting Melo. You are the only constant starhope this AARP squad has, your short stints on the IR aside. We know this. You know this. The city knows this. And most importantly, Woody knows this.

We've seen you save the bacon plenty of times these past three seasons.

Excuse me now, while I go bump the YouTube Melo thread...

Respectfully yours,
Jrod "he with the three game thread winning streak" mc

This is the worst statement I have heard in a long time. I play ball and have watched a lot of the great players play and if you think it is not personal your blind. I won't get deep into it but just think before you type.

In the Knick of time. Knickal for Your thoughts.

Not very efficient, I agree. He and JR took almost 60 shots!

I like jR driving to the hole more often now. Melo needs to learn this. You stop runs by the other teams by getting to the line.

Melo would help himself if he parsed it more--he would become more of a threat. If he avg 4/5 assists his FG% would go up to 48% and this team would score 6-10 more pts a game imho. Thats how big this is.

We tried that remember?

Maybe against some teams this is how we get the Win!

Its not pretty, but the result is their.

But with arguably his deepest and most seasoned supporting cast this season in New York, he's ready to sacrifice the high scoring Anthony has always been known for.

"I don't want to try to put all that burden on myself to go out there and try to do everything, so I'm willing to make any sacrifice in my game regardless of what anybody else says," he told ESPNNewYork.com on Friday. "If my scoring goes from 27 to 23, I'm cool with that. Right now, I'm willing to make any sacrifice that I have to."

&

“For me personally, I’m in my 10th year,’’ Anthony said. “Everyone pretty much knows I can score the basketball. But for me to challenge myself, instill the trust into my teammates to give them that confidence when they do shoot the ball, to have that confidence that they can make it happen as well.

I’m done trying to score 35, 40 points to win the basketball game. I don’t want that role anymore. I can do it. That’s what I do. But in order for this team to be successful, for guys we have right now, we need a more well-rounded team. If I have to sacrifice on the offensive end, I’m willing to do it. It’s easy for me to sit here and say it. But this year it’s going to be locking in and doing it as the leader of this team.’’

Of course shooters shoot. Attempting to change Carmelo's basketball DNA would be like turning Woeld B Free into Pablo Progioni. Darryl Dawkins into Chris Dudley. The suggestion is not a fundamental change in his natural habitat or instinct.

Nor am I here to label Anthony a gunner, sniper, unconscious ego-maniacal brat or mother chucker.

Is The Answer Man asking to much to substitute 5 assists for 5 shot attempts?

I don't think so.

Respectfully Yours,
