![]() He has a phobia about flying on a plane. Cannot be an NBA player if you cannot fly.

![]() He is supposed to take a bus to games on road trips and tried to negotiate not being fined if he was late or missed shoot arounds for away games. His situation is sad.

![]() He just decided his run in the D-League was over? (Albeit, even his D-League stint was unimpressive)
Very frustrating situation. Have been keeping tabs on it, for whatever reason, against better judgment. At first I was sympathetic to Royce, and thought he could do some good for those suffering from anxiety, but over the past several months, I've come to believe this is not a good or honest man. Definitely seems like a media whore/self-inflicted martyr. Haven't exactly been rooting for Houston this year given this past offseason, but I feel bad for the team wasting a pick on this guy. I'll be relieved when he is out of the league, and that day is certainly coming soon. |

![]() this is an extremely interesting case at this level of work (i.e. very successful/skillful) that appears to expose how our current society is not quite developed enough to fully grasp and address this kind of conflict. traditionally, i know folks might be thinking a 'tough mental' player is essential to being a 'winner.' yet, how do we define such players as 'tough?" there is much to discuss and debate, but i do think there is something here to take with us down the road in understanding the complexity of those with disabilities who have strengths and skills that can allow them to perform at very high levels (higher sometimes than those who may not have the same disabilities), like in this case.

![]() Special arrangements need to be made... it's a new situation so there's no rules, no guidelines on what to do. He is medically diagnosed, he's a good player, just a reasonable arrangement needs to be made.
The rockets made the pick with their eyes open. If he had no mental issues he probably would have gone higher. So they got 'value' from that pick, but I guess they couldn't come to some kind of agreement. I don't think the story is over, rookie contracts are 3 years? There's time to come up with a solution. Rose is not the answer.

![]() I can't see a team picking him up. I mean who wants that headache for just a good + player and not a great player?
I think he needs to play in a local league and work on getting over his phobias. Maybe later then he will be ready to play. Ironic that it was with our pick, I mean you would think they'd get a star. ![]() It was a gamble pick as his value dropped in the draft. Rockets knew the deal. I too was sympathetic but the dude is just running his mouth like he has a "Right" to be an NBA player and they should accommodate his "handicap".
He has to be able to fly. The logistics of games nearly demand it. Logistics of getting physical therapy demands it. Logistics of how coaching is dispensed and being part of the team demands it. Not quite, but he sounds like a flight attendant complaining the airlines are not being sensitive to his condition. Dude gotta fly! The graphic above with the head line below "march madness" takes on a new meaning! Im sure he is very frustrated with him self and the league but running the mouth looking for public support won't help. Gotta fly! |

![]() You understand? You put him under like for surgery, then he does not have to face the fear of flying, you can jet him across country in a box if you want,

![]() A situation terribly handled by all parties right from the start. Should of just exempted him from away games and tried to work on the anxiety issue over a few years. Therapy isn't magic- it's very unlikely you'll get someone to go from fearing flying, to going on 80+ flights a year after only a few sessions! Ridiculous, really don't know what the rockets were thinking. Trust broke down, now he's convinced the Rockets are out to do him harm.
