teams that lack an identity or have failed to gel are doomed come playoff time, especially beyond the first round. even so, will the knicks win a first round finally? i guess it depends on whether we draw atlanta or the nets. we have a chance of defeating these squads but i have to say... so what?
It all really depends on how much you value Magic Johnson's opinion. Magic was saying Melo was the in the race for MVP of the league around the same time you were saying he wasnt.
he is trying to be diplomatic regarding melo and at the same time trying to promote the game and generate excitement. he's not like charles barkley or jon barry that way, or even shaq.
i value his opinion based on his being one of the top greatest players, and i think anyone who has seen him play and who has followed him as a studio analyst, knows that he's diplomatic and a promoter of sorts. looking past his way of stating things i try to get to the substance of what he is saying.
and what he is saying is that the knicks still lack an identity. do you agree with his assessment?
Not really. the Knicks are an iso-centric, 3 point shooting team. As NYDiva said, they're perimeter oriented. I remember last season when Lin and Amare went down and we were playing the Magic (the same day that Dwight got called out for trying to get Stan fired) SVG said the knicks are better without them because they had an identity - which was that they go through Melo. We're pretty much the same this season. Its just that when our shots arent falling and we continue to play terrible defense and Melo gets injured, we dont look too good.
Edit: I dont really like that that is our identity but it is what it is.
Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.
