How about just accepting he is here for the long run and suggesting how to realistic shape the roster to maximize his talent. The goal is to resourcefully add talent without blowing it up because we know its pointless. I will also assume no Amare consistently moving forward. Here's my offseason plan.

Trade shumpert, camby (expiring), our 1st round pick and cash on draft night to phx for Dudley, lakers pick and phx 2nd rounder. Draft Olynyk (might not go top 10 due to age/lack of upside) and Wolters.

Sign Mozgov using $3 million mmle over 2 years and resign smith, Martin, and copeland.

C chandler
PF Olynyk (skilled young nba ready big man)
Sf Anthony
Sg Dudley (shooter/defender/high iq)
Pg Felton

6th smith
7th Kidd
8th Martin
9th Novak
10th moz
11th Wolters
12th copeland
13th white

Don't want to trade shumpert but gotta give to get. We add real talent, skilled role players, and refill the youth fountain.

Please come up with some other realistic ideas that doesn't involve blowing it up.

It starts with the draft. Not sure what the Knicks do. Grunwald has been very resourceful. Maybe he buys a pick, I know teams are limited in the amount of money they can spend in a calendar year on transactions and I am not sure if the Knicks already spent their money. He also has the rights to Nivens, and a small trade exception so maybe he can make something happen. I think Grunwald and Woodson have been on the same page in regards to personnel so far. That may change with Cope. The Knicks need to resign him hopefully for not a lot. I would love to see Prigs back but he is going to get a pay raise also if he stays. I think White is gone. I don't know if Grunwald was slick with any of his one year deals making a second year unguaranteed like he did with Jorts, Jordan, and Gadz. Maybe the Knicks bring in Jorts or Jordan. They were good to both guys. Jorts was a good role player on the Knicks.

Is he here for the long-run? Dolan usually does a full roster purge every 2 to 3 years. If we have a third straight bad post-season and people start to lose faith in our roster, I could see Dolan swapping Melo for a another "star." If we have a 3rd straight bad post-season, Dolan's probably gonna be pissed. MSG makes a ton of money from each game they have. He wants deep playoff runs, and credit/blame will go to Melo.

I think the purge is bringing in a new gm every few years. Layden's high character scrubs were purged by isiah who seemed to want bad boys with bad contracts. Walsh just purged. Grunwald is working with what he was given but has been able to put his stamp on the team. I think grunwald sticks for awhile. Dolan cried when he fired layden's despite his being very inept. He was forced to fire isiah and tried to hire him back. Walsh was forced on him. Grunwald has been in ny since isiah. I don't think he is leaving so I don't think that roster flush is coming anytime soon.
