If we amnesty Amare--does that means we free up 20+mm in cap? As in his money does not exist other than we have to pay it to him?

It was used on Chauncey and the Knicks used the cap space to get Tyson.

The Knicks already used the amnesty and can't use it again, but if they would have used it on Stoudemire it works like this: Knicks pay his salary but the money doesn't count against the cap, just as you described.

Our only hope is he retires and Dolan kicks him upstairs and funnels him the rest of his money that way...And if he feels good enough to play maybe he joins the team around the all star break to make it look good for the vet min...But he has pride..He isn't giving up that Penthouse apartment...

Is there any possibility of trading him to a team that still has an amnesty? Of course, I don't know what we could offer that would be tempting...
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Mike D'Antoni wanted the New York Knicks to re-sign David Lee instead of pursuing Amar'e Stoudemire in the free agent summer of 2010, according to a report.

The Knicks ultimately signed Stoudemire to a lucrative five-year contract that offseason -- uninsured despite his knee issues -- as Lee signed with the Golden State Warriors.

Stoudemire will miss the next six weeks because of debridement in his right knee.

Daily News stirring the pot although could be true, since they both had to have a heart-to-heart before signing him.

"but if Amare did not come maybe Melo would not have either........."

Maybe that would not have been the end of the world either!

Melo is a big time player but knicks for the 3rd year are falling apart at the end of the season.

still gotta play it out. We playoff bound, knicks raised season tix prices 6% for next year. Wall ST is up. The renovation will be done, all thats needed is a playoff series win.

Small steps, but they steps.

Amare deal was a huge mistake.

Exactly.

I disagree tho all that is needed is a 3rd playoff win at this point. Not even a series win at this rate. We win two playoff games in the first rd and the confetti can come down again

Not sure why anybody will follow this team next year...
There is nothing that can be done to improve it and it will bounce afound 50% ball and first round exit at best for 2-3 years.
So what the point of watching?

2015 baby! Blow it up and go all out in free agency again. Is Lebron a free agent in 14 or 15?

You're kidding me. I didn't reup this year because my seats in the 300's went from $72 two years ago to $105 this year.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

2015 wish list = kyrie irving (once he grows into his mature body, hell stop having these baby injuries) and paul george
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

I was watching when Rory Sparrow, Louis Orr, Ken the Animal Bannister, Pat Cummings etc was starring...This is a 100% upgrade from those days...
