I have McAfee Total Protection 2013 and ccleaner. McAfee does not detect any viruses and I've run ccleaner many times. However, my computer is running slowly. Firefox is VERY slow - about 1 minute to navigate to each web page. IE is better but still pretty slow. Microsoft programs are slow too. Any suggestions?

Do a quick search for 'best free anti virus',

malwarebytes anti-malware is pretty good,

other than that i suggest installing ubuntu and running that instead of windows

also i would get rid of mcafee, don't trust those bastards, for all i know they're running covert ops against your pc so that you will buy their next product

I've been using the free version of Avast for the last few years and its done a good job keeping my comp virus free.

I've had both Avast and Norton Anti-virus in the past several years, but find that Window's Defender generally works better than both, and likely is already on your computer.

Not a fan of defender. It rarely finds spyware that I find with other programs. Don't like Norton or McAfee as they're big processor hogs. The free version of Avast is mostly for viruses and they've gotten much better at flagging them. Its also warned me of malware and trojan attacks.

Microsoft security essentials is good but you have to do the updates... and be wary if you are searching for porn.

the thing about using something like ubuntu is that you will never again have a virus for as long as you live, which, by itself, is enough to warrant consideration
