Lets say that Kidd or Camby decide to retire by some miracle? Are the knicks responsible for their salaries (twds the cap)?
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

they are unless there is a reduced buyout or those 2 agree to cancel the contracts

I do believe so, unless they are bought out.

In the Knicks casew they have an 80 mil payroll so it really is a moot point.

If a player willingly retires, I have not seen anything that states the team needs to pay them or that the money counts against the cap.

there are exceptions, however: Any money paid to a player is included in team salary, even if the player is no longer playing or has retired.

you seem to have to get a buyout (at reduced $ figure you would hope) or have the retiring player agree to cancel the contract

im no expert so this is for sure my take on it.
