i was watching the Lakers game after Buss died and watching Kobe play absolutely infuriated me. You watch him play and while he can be a chucker at times he is a true competitor and winner. I love Melo but when was the last time you saw Melo take a charge? Has Melo or anyone on this knicks roster for that matter ever shown the will to win like Kobe has for his whole career. He plays through injuries and pain and his tenacity is unphased. we need a player willing to do those things, better yet we need Melo to really step up and be the leader of this team. I though Kidd would be the guy to take that burden off Melo for the next year or two but he isnt a 25% of what he was or what we thought we were getting.

well i'd say Kobe's been the closest thing to MJ that there's been since he retired... the only reason LeBron's a step behind is b/c of Kobe's killer instinct and 5 rings.

In the NBA, there's LeBron, Kobe, Durant, and everyone else

comparing Chucker Kobe to MJ is beyond disrespectful

and ... shows a glaring lack of knowledge of their stats/efficiency

Not sure how Kobe's a "chucker" when Jordan averaged more shots per game when compared to Kobe.

Also, every all-time great scorer must shoot the ball in order to score. And shoot the ball often too.

Jordan had a great career FG% and in my eyes, the greatest basketball player I've ever seen. I will never consider Kobe greater than Jordan although Kobe's the closest thing I've seen to Jordan, since Jordan himself.

One thing about Kobe and Jordan? Kobe's greatness has lasted LONGER than Jordan's greatness lasted.

Jordan over Kobe all day. Heck, Jordan over any player that's ever lived to play the game. But to consider Kobe a "chucker" is very clueless. Anyone with any knowledge of the game of basketball understands Kobe's one of the greatest scorers/players of all-time.

Every person with a brain knows that Kobe is a chucker. How do you think his coach(es) felt/feel?

And, number of shots has nothing to do with it. You get that right?

I'm a huge Kobe fan but when all is said and done Lebron will prove to be the better player even if he doesn't win another ring. Before last year I would've taken Kobe but Lebron proved that he can put the Heat on his back and carry them. Even without Bosh and Wade's knees being shot. I give Kobe credit for winning 2 rings late in his career with Gasol who is good but not great.

Both guys pale in comparison to Jordan though

I think you have to compare Kobe to Jordan and Oscar Robertson in which Jordan & Oscar win hands down

and Lebron to Magic which Lebron wins

their efficiency numbers or on different planets. And, Gasol was GREAT those years and that team was stacked.

Ummm... Scottie Pippen was a MUCH greater basketball player when compared to Gasol...

umm let me respond to this original rebuttal:

so the OP asked why Melo doesn't play with the same tenacity as Kobe.

I originally responded to say that at the moment, Kobe, LeBron, and Durant are in a whole different league compared to Melo.

I also stated that Kobe is the closest thing to Jordan at this moment, which I would argue is accurate now just because he has 5 rings, a killer instinct to win and do nothing else but win. Melo doesn't have that. I don't see LeBron with that attitude either yet. I know Jordan had that attitude in him.

Now, LeBron might as well surpass Kobe soon enough. Who knows. That wasn't my point though.

Melo and Kobe should never ever be in the same sentence. And I'm a fan of Melo too

I don't think that Kobe is at the Caliber of Jordan. im not really sure how this turned into that kind of thread. Just saying that he has the same killer instincts and desire to win that you see in "all-time greats" Melo shows that once or twice a season really. He needs to go into every game with hat mentality and play like every game means something and never take games off. I truly believe that some guys he doesn't have the drive to win or even really play and those are the games where he is 5-25+ with 10+ 3 point attempts. Melo could get to the line 15 times a game if committed to being the type of player he is most effective at. A mid range low post player who causes nightmare match ups and can step out and knock down shots. he doesn't belong living on the 3 point line. And even if he doesn't have the defensive ability of a Kobe or Lebron he needs to play with the effort and tenacity of these guys if he wants to be a leader and a champion at some point in his career.

You're asking more from melo than he is capable of, he is not the kind of player to go into games with the mentality of Kobe.

Kobe is special in that area, with only a few are in, which is why he is compared to Jordan.

it's not the rings or the points...it's his will and determination, and his demands on a teammate.

melo has none of those qualities.

Kobe is a freaking psycho..are you kidding me, comparing anyone to Kobe??? Love Melo buy guys like Kobe aren't normal. Normal guys don't stay so damn fit all year long. Normal guys aren't as competitive as psycho's like Kobe and MJ. Of course we all wish our players would have the same mentality but, it is and he (kobe) is a rare breed.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

haha i think describing Kobe as a psycho is actually the best description i've ever heard. I have never seen someone able to take things and turn them directly into motivation and a reason to execute other teams the way Kobe does. Im not asking for Melo to be Kobe or Jordan, just to show the will to win on both ends of the floor and not take plays/games off
