I'm a sure Melo fan and I still favor the trade that got him here. But that silly smile while we are getting our butts kicked I don't like. I ain't smiling. I'm mad as hell. When LeBron took his team to the championship he had no smile. He had the eye of the tiger. Melo needs to be more serious in these games. You smile in pop warner you smile in high school but now you are big time and being paid the money you are being paid it's not fun unless you are up by 25 points. Melo is my boy but I have a problem with that silly smile all the time. With the schedule the Knicks have after the allstar break we are in big trouble. Melo must lead by example, show some feelings instead of that silly smile and say You're just having fun. This is not fun it's serious business and the Knicks need to start steping up.Fun is for kids. This is a mans game.

It's a goofy reaction. I think he thinks it shows he's still in control when things aren't going his way, like he's above it. Most kids grow out of it in HS.

Getting paid hundreds of thousands per minute to play a "man's game" is probably the most fun you can have outside of sex. The young man should be smiling.

Posting and whining on the internet; now that's some serious business, even though it's free, unpaid and mostly pointless.

see? Maybe this is where some differ around here. You think he's being paid to play. I think he's being paid to win. Maybe thats part of papabears complaint?

No, I'm pretty sure he gets paid win or lose, fish. Is he being paid to frown? Is that a professional contractual agreement we are all talking about here? And the reasons our boy Melo is not supposed to smile? Because LeQ doesn't? Because we all on here think winning basketball should be serious life and death.

Get a grip. Seriously. Newsflash: The Melos of the NBA don't live in this world, fellas.

Maybe the difference around here is some base their existence on results. Others are posting on a Knicks fan site. About their favorite basketball team. And getting paid nothing to do it.

So you think him smiling is an indication that he doesnt take the game seriously?

He is paid to entertain.

He is paid to draw fans to buy tickets, view and listen to broadcasts and buy merchindise.

Judging by the early Mooby worship I'd say he is very successful in his efforts.

Winning is a part of the equation. A distinct number of fans judge success by wins or losses.

THere are good hoop fans like NYKMentality who love him and the team when they win. Where is he these days? Lose two in a row and he stops defending "his" team? Fans like NYKM have built him up into a larger than life figure(ine) whose image is hard to live up to the hype.

Melo is a true allstar scoring machine who has yet to demonstrate that charactoristic both mental and physical to lead a team to the finals. Very few players in the history of the game posses that kind of talent. Mooby worshipers do and are apologiests. Homers and most somberites believe he is thus far a top 5 MVP player this year which is a hell of a thing.

The smile, yeah, its a control thing when your talented and want to be awesome. Lebron went away from that. Winners have to snarl and get nasty. Kobe got that, Wade got that, Dirk got that, Spurs got that, and yeah, Felton has that. Dwight is a clown. JR Smith and Melo when they get hot get animated and feel the groove. Thats cool BTW, but when its not going well Melo gets upset with Refs, himself and perhaps the team. Thats now when you smile, its when you snarl and get rebounds, play defense and wait for the game to come back to you. JR keep shooting and thats ok because he is not seen as a leader and face of the franchise.

Its not fair, but its NY and its what Melo wanted.

He smiles because he thinks it's just a game and it is. I don't care if he smiles or not it has nothing to do with the outcome. What I do care about is Melo improving on his shot selection getting teammates involved. Stopping ball movement that's what I care about. I like Melo. I think he can be a much better player. Don't know if he wants it bad enough but he can seriously get better he has a lot of room for improvement. It's just a matter of looking himself in the mirror and set about what he wants to improve on. I personally think he should be 50% shooter from the floor, 8 rebounds 5 assists per game player. I know LeBron and Durant are better players than Melo simple reason they just want it more than Melo, and it helps them to have sidekicks. He has to stop jacking shots without purpose. I really don't care about the smile. He can smile all he wants but just have purpose out there. Stop holding the ball, make quicker decisions. Get teammates involved. Move without the ball. I have not seen Melo cut to the basket and someone hit him on the cut. There are no easy baskets many times he goes to the basket and he is flailing. I think he can take lessons from Tony Parker on finishing around the basket, I think all the Knicks can do that especially Felton.

Eli had this problem. His easy going looking demeanor was often mistaken as not intense or not caring or just outright dumb. Anyone who follows the Giants closely know he is the furthest thing from it.

Like with Eli you know what changes all? Winning. Really winning. Getting the playoffs and being an all star doesnt mean a ton in the NBA. You have to win when it counts, especially in NY.

ALL of stupid things that dog Melo like his cute smile are his fault. He bailed on the coach, he was clear about his desire to be the man, and also to get paid.

Well now your the man, you have your coach, you have your team that nobody should be traded from, you had your Olympic renewal, you got your big payday, and it cost the Knicks a lot of good young players and the former team which surely would flop without the coveted superstar hasnt dropped off at all. In fact they look better. Which leaves us with what I have been saying since this trade went down. Go win and the people will shut up.

Im still waiting to be bromanced by Melo and Melo's game. He can certainly do some impressive things but has continually in his career shown his game is not suitable to build a team around that can compete for a title. Show us something Carmello... please. Knick fans are dying for it.

Check the "Other games" thread. He pops up there whenever an ex-Knick has a bad game.

The smiling and easy going demeanor is just who he is. His wife says he's just a mellow person. I'd agree that smiling while we're losing is kind of irritating but:
1. We don't know what was said.
2. I'll take it over the years of scowling on the bench with a towel over one's head. Does is make losing any better? Personally, I don't worry about things I can't control or change either. It's just a waste of energy...move on.
3. Everything Fish said.
Melo is my boy but that smile has to go. And having fun?? no not fun with the money being paid. Here's why!
