NEW YORK -- Carmelo Anthony said a "deep" right arm contusion he suffered on Wednesday night may sideline him for Sunday's NBA All-Star Game.

The New York Knicks forward suffered the injury early in the first quarter of the Knicks' 92-88 loss to Toronto when DeMar DeRozan elbowed him in the arm on a drive.

Anthony said he felt numbness throughout the game and called the contusion "kind of deep."

If he feels discomfort leading up to Sunday evening's game, Anthony said he would sit out rather than risk further injury.

"I'm not going to force it, definitely not going to force it," Anthony said. "As bad as I would want to play in the All-Star Game, participate, if I can't go I can't go. Nothing I can do about that."

Anthony struggled with his shot throughout the Knicks' loss on Wednesday, their third in four games heading into the All-Star break.

Anthony missed 19 of 24 shots and had just 12 points. It was the third game this season in which he failed to score 20 points.

The injury affected Anthony's shot throughout the game.

"It was kind of like a dead arm out there," he said. "Just a matter of trying to get through it, trying to get some feeling back into it."

Anthony, a six-time All-Star, entered play Wednesday averaging 29 points per game, tied with Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant for the highest mark in the NBA.

I suppose there's a fine line between trying to will your team to win at all costs versus letting the staff know that you sustained an injury and resting it to prevent further complications down the road.

Didn't stop him from putting up 24 shots. It's an excuse for a bad night. He will play in the allstar game

I asked Melo why he kept shooting if his right arm was numb. He answered, then said, "You'd have to be a shooter to understand.

Are contusions contagious b/c everyone shot horribly tonight.
As a team we shot 35%. The way we were shooting tonight as a team, spread those 24 shots across the other guys, I doubt we would have fared much better. Actually both teams except for Anderson were horrible...I almost fell asleep during the game it was that slow lol
Also, Novak was hitting his shots tonight so idk why Woodson didn't give him more minutes. Defensive liability he is but when he's on he's worth the risk.

Get well soon Melo.

Not blaming Melo just wondering how you can shoot 24 shots with a bad elbow

I know, I wasn't calling you out or anything. I wasn't defending him either...I was just sharing my general thoughts on the matter. I suppose he was just trying to play through the pain...or numbness or whatever it feels like. At least he has a week off to heal.

melo plays the wrong way and makes low BBIQ decisions people complain.

woodson can't figure out what to do with this team people complain.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Melo plays through pain and he has a low BBIQ.

Melo sits and he's quitting on his coach.

Somebody please revive the "Melo sits out with a groin pull and yet he doesn't really have a groin" threads.

Melo is going to need Tommy John surgery if he keeps shooting at this rate in his career. His pitch count is getting up there

This isn't on Melo, all this losing is due to a weak supporting cast. This is a Jack the three ball team whenever. No rhyme or reason required. Stagnant offense no moving parts. Defense gets shotty here and there. Melo is actually having a good year. I still would like to see him shoot 50% from the floor but that is wishful think. His game needs a lot of improvement he needs to make quicker decisions when he does have the ball because once it hits his hand everything stops all the movement with it. That ball should not stick in his hand for more than 3 seconds, decisions have to be quick.

I agree we're not going through such a bad stretch because of Melo, but mainly for things stated above, nevertheless very few of us had concerns about these issues early on and we're laughed off about it or considered belligerent thinking as a fan.

I was watching the Clips-Rockets game and EVERYONE moves without the ball, cuts to the baske etc. . I suggest people watch the way other teams play offensively. It is drastically different the way the Knicks play and it falls on Woodson to develop an offensive gameplan. Not just let the "players play"
