There are two players in which I believe our Knicks wouldn't be able to survive without. Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler. Tyson Chandler does need to play with more energy on a more consistent basis, but he's one of our biggest reasons why we've enjoyed success thus far throughout 2012-2013. He may not be Patrick Ewing (or anything like Ewing), but he is our first All-Star Center dating back to Ewing himself. Leads the entire league in FG percentage going on consecutive seasons doing so while also ranking 6th in boards per game (only behind the likes of Noah, Asik, Vucevic, Zach Randolph and Dwight Howard). Leads the league in offensive boards per game (giving us second chance opportunities). Overall, I'm glad we now feature a true NBA Center. NBA Champion as a starting Center. Defensive Player of the Year. 2× NBA All-Defensive Second Team. 1x All-NBA Third Team. 1x American Gold Medalist Olympian and now he's an NBA All-Star.
Our offense ranks 9th in scoring (100.6 points per game) despite the fact we only rank 12th in field goals attempted per game and 23rd in free throws attempted per game. Our field goal percentage ranks only 15th but we're 1st in (fewest) turnovers committed per game. We lead the league in turnover differential. Ranked 3rd in assist to turnovers per game, 8th in points per shot and 7th in adjusted field goal percentage. 6th in three point shooting percentage.
Our defense ranks 8th in points allowed (95.8 allowed per game) and 3rd (best) in opponents field goals attempted per game (against). We do have lots of work to do moving forward in regards to our defense. Including rebounding stronger off the boards although we have out rebounded our opponents 13 of our previous 19 games (13-6). We rank 19th in Field Goal percentage against and 13th in defensive steals per game. 23rd in opponents points per shot. 25th in opponents adjusted field goal percentage and 15th in three point shooting percentage against.
5th in point differential. 8th in Field Goals made differential. 3rd in Field Goals attempted differential. 1st in 3 Points Made differential. 3rd in assists to turnovers and 1st in turnover differential.
I believe our offense is heading in the right direction but our defensive ability does need to improve under coach Woodson and/or vice versa moving forward. But with all that said, this has been our most successful regular seasons heading into all-star weekend dating back to 1996-1997. We're still learning how to play as a team as well.
Guys such as...
Felton (starting PG).
Pablo Prigioni.
Jason Kidd.
Rasheed Wallace.
Marcus Camby.
Kurt Thomas.
Ronnie Brewer.
James White.
Chris Copeland.
9 of our 15 players weren't even on our Knicks roster last season. That only leaves the likes of Shumpert, J.R, Novak, Melo, Amar'e and Tyson who were. And of our 6 returning players from last season both Shumpert and Stoudemire have just returned from injury. Shump's only been back for 12 games while Stoudemire's only been back for 19 games.
In closing, I don't believe for one second that we've seen the best of our Knicks and/or our full potential.
