1) Amare switches onto Wall, who is coming off a Nene screen

2) Amare then decides to sag off Wall. Why? So he can, I guess, LOOK at but not guard Nene or anyone else on the opposing team even though Felton is still on Nene. This forces Melo to scramble and leave Trevor Ariza, who has already burnt the Knicks for five 3s.

Does Amare

a) run to cover Ariza (y'know since Melo is covering for him)
b) recover to Wall and allow Melo to go back to Ariza
c) Cover Nene and allow Felton to run back to Wall or Ariza

3) d) Stand under the basket still guarding NO ONE while Wall fakes the pass to Ariza (Melo runs back to Ariza as he should) and then stand under the basket like a statue while Wall takes his time to essentially take a free throw. !!!!! SMH...

I like how Amar'e always get called out but Tyson rarely gets called out. Amar'e does a lot of bad thing but it seems like his bad defensive plays are so highlighted that people do not see him have good defensive possessions. However, Amar'e puts a lot of it on himself because his mistakes on D are like H.S. dumb. lol.

I'm a big Amar'e fan - I think he's a huge asset - but was it really the coach's responsibility to teach him defense? I just think he had the misfortune of playing for for most of his career. I don't think he was asked to play defense for most of career. But i don't think htat's an excuse. He should have played defense like this a long time ago and he should be a great defender by now. He certainly had the physical gifts to do so

it's just so crazy to me that this sequence happened NOT when we're up or down 20 but down 5 with 3 minutes.

I'm out of town and on my work computer through the VPN... could you describe the sequence? as the vids are blocked for me

actually ...not a bad decision by amare...wall CANT shoot a nd that was his only outside shot all nite
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Yea they did it all night but this particular possession was bad because it came at a crucial moment in the game when we needed a stop and Amare left him open for a lonnnng time. It was like a FT

The film session has started. Following Knicks poor defensive showing, Amar'e is viewing game film on his IPad with 2 assistant coaches

I just posted this on the last thread.
I was pretty harsh on STAT myself at the game but I just realized that maybe he was out of it b/c it's the 1 year anniversary of STAT's brother's death?
His defense has always needed improvement but tonight it was so bad I wanted to shake him to try and wake him up. I don't know if this personal matter was the reason he was so out of it tonight despite him seeming fine on offense...

Yeah there is a difference in giving a guy a shot and forcing him to shoot a shot he doesn't want to shoot. You have to close out and make it difficult as a defender.

That last picture says it all. Everyone in defensive stance but Amare and Tyson

The whole team dared an awful shooter to shoot. That's all that picture means. Nice way to ignore all the impact Stoudemire's made as of late, with one picture showing an entire defense dating an awful shooter, to shoot. Good job. Overreacting due to a single loss. 5-1 during our last 6.

I appreciate the passion you have for the team. I appreciate that you always look on the bright side of things.

You seem to have this pattern where you interpret ANY criticism of the team as a dismissal of an entire season or career's worth of work. You then feel the need to respond in a condescending and abrasive confrontational manner. It's getting old.

What he did during that crucial time drove me crazy, I made a post about it. Nowhere in this post did I state "Amare Stoudemire is worthless and contributes nothing to this team".

Newflash:

You can criticize a player for taking a bad shot or not giving effort WITHOUT crapping on their entire season's contributions to the team.

Amare played terrible defense here does not = Amare is hurting this team. Get him outta here!

RELAX

If you're locked in some kind of personal crusade with tkf or whoever, fine. Enjoy that. You don't have to project your rage against them to every poster on here who has anything less than flowery gushing praise for every member of this team every minute of every game.

If you think the Knicks defensive game plan was hey Amare you stand under the basket guarding no one and let Wall take a wide open 8 foot jump shot then I don't know what to tell you man.

“If we want to accomplish our goal, we have to get ready for games like this and get up for games like this.We were simply outplayed and we can’t allow things like this to happen. - Tyson Chandler"

“We went flat. You got to give Washington credit. They played great from beginning to end. We just showed up thinking we were getting the win.’ - Mike Woodson

Chandler was miffed at one play in the fourth quarter when Wall was left open at the elbow for a couple of seconds before he drained a 12-footer. Not one Knick came out to challenge.

“We knew the plays they were running and we just didn’t work hard enough to stop them,’’ said Chandler,

The Knicks fell behind 16-5 in the opening five minutes but scrambled back into the game with a 10-0 run, capped by an Anthony 3-pointer. But the rest of the game was trading baskets and watching Wall fly.

“We have to be ready at the start of the game and I thought we came out way too flat,’’ Chandler said.

Wrong. The Knicks haven't been coming out flat to start games. Other teams are pumped to play them. The Knicks didn't make any mistakes. We dared Wall to shoot by not putting any defender anywhere near him. That's how NBA defenses work. Way to overreact to one loss Tyson Chandler. Good job being a so-called coach, Mike Woodson - NYKMentality

This is what you have been doing my man. I don't quite understand why.

I agree. Tyson has taken a lot of possessions off this year in Amare-like fashion
