Don't understand it from Either side- who the heck starts SF for the grizzlies- why trade a starting SF for a back up PF/C? They already have Gasol and Randolph. And doesn't Toronto already have a glut of overpaid SF types? And didn't they just decide Calderon was their starting PG and Lowry just a back up?

Memphis had a shot this year, and their owners are wrecking it to save a few bucks. Surely they could have found a better deal for Gay if they'd waited til draft time?

I read that Calderon is has an expiring contract. Could be a nice move for both teams. I believe Conley has a bad ankle. Not sure how long he will be out. I would think Gay would have to play the 4. Wonder if Gay takes more minutes away from Fields.

I think Memphis is making a huge mistake if so
Their starting roster is just as good as any in the Western Conference

Rudy Gay is one of the top SF's after Lebron/Durant

I would be surprised if Toronto did not have to part with Derozan or/and Terrence Ross for this deal to happen

There's also talk of getting a 3rd team to take on Calderone

Doesn't Calderon take 10 mil off the books at the end of the season when his contract expires?

Gay is the 3rd best player on that team. They don't need him. They could get by with JR Smith at SF.

Gay and Derozan on the same team.

Apparently raptors said Ross is untouchable. Which is bizarre as they already have a tonne of money tied up in the overpaid Derozan and Landry Fields. Add Overpaid Rudy Gay to that and where the heck are the minutes for Ross?

Latest talk is Grizzlies trading Calderon to either Detroit for Prince or Dallas for Vince

Yeah, there was a time when Landry Fields was untouchable too. That said, I'm not sure how Gay fits on this team as it's currently constructed outside of the fact that he's a good player and he's already locked up. They don't have to worry about him fleeing for a while. And who knows, he might stay if they max him out again.

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

@ Anji, make a list of Small Forwards that you think are better than Rudy Gay
He would be the 2nd best player on the Knicks, I would love to acquire him

This is complete MORONIC DEAL for Grizzlies, if they do such a trade, they might as well get back multiple 1st round picks and young players
And after that, they better have deals already in place for ZBO because of his age it makes no sense keep him, with picks/expirings
But I don't see them getting anything according to the rumors but SALARY relief
At least get a salary exemptions they can use and multiple 1st round picks

Marc Gasol and Conley should be initiating the offense much more than they do
They are both young and could be part of their future plans

This is a great steal if so for Toronto, especially since NO ALL STAR's would actually ever sign there and they are basically giving up NOTHING

Memphis could get in on Paul Pierce if the Celtics sell. Shorter expiring contract in a few yrs instead of resigning Gay

This was a deal the Grizzlies didn't have to make, but anyone who side with the owners after something like this is a complete dumbass.

This is max profit over competition.

I could only thing of a few players that are after in his range

in no order

Paul George
Batumm

older and has peaked out
----------------------------
Melo
Pierce
Deng

under Rudy Gay
-----------------
Ilyasova
Iggy
Granger *health issue*
Gallo
Gereld Wallace

Young but not still improving
-----------------------------------
Chandler Parsons
Klay Thompson

MKG will need to see how he is next year as he improves but too early to determine for now

Josh Smith/Harden are not true SF's so I leave them off the list

Memphis gets Austin Daye in the deal. I really liked Daye and he never could put it together in Detroit. Maybe he gets it in Memphis.

Toronto is thinking Rudy Gay Unleashed to be the man, will be their James Harden and Derozen is their Russell Westbrook. I see the logic for Toronto. Memphis if they get Prince they are looking for a team oriented vet who plays decent defense who can score too.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Memphis made an excellent trade if what is reported as true. They have proven to win games(at least last year) regardless if Gay plays or not. Toronto did okay at least they have a better star player than Bargs, who they can now move without much reservation although his value has to be at an All-Time low.

Memphis

Sends
Gay/Haddadi

Receives
Ed Davis(stud)
Austin Daye(young rotation player)
Prince(nice vet for playoff push)
2nd round pick(extra asset is never a bad thing)

Toronto

Sends
Ed Davis
Calderon

Receives
Gay(nice near all star caliber talent to help for a playoff push)
Haddadi(serviceable big)

Detroit

Sends
Prince/Day

Receives
Calderon(nice expiring contract)
