My father had a hip replacement about 6 years back. He was laid up for a few weeks but the rehab wasn't all too much or painful. After about 3-4 months he was good as new....no limp, walking aide or anything. He was in a ton of pain after the surgery itself but the pain meds did the trick for the most part.

Heard the doctors talking about A-Rod's hip replacement. Nothing like rehab 7 recovery from knee surgery. Well wishes whether its you or someone else

My mother had a knee replacement a year and a half ago and it took a while to be getting around, but it was awesome. Hip replacement, I'm not sure, but I think it's less recovery time than knee replacement. The only thing was that she developed blood clots so she has been on coumadin since.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

There is a guy that had both knees replaced, came back, deadlifted like 800 lbs, there's a picture of him in Starting Strength 2nd edition,

so a replacement isn't an end-all if you have an Iron Will

I know you need to do your rehab or it will lock up on you. My mother had hers done shortly before she passed away. She was too sick to rehab it and spent the last couple of months in pain and needing a wheel chair. I know another guy that is younger and really into biking. The surgery changed his life in a positive way. He has nothing but good things to say about it. Good luck to you and your family with this.

I knew a former Marine who got a knee replacement and is still one of the toughest dudes I've ever met
