From USA Today

Memphis Grizzlies traded forward-center Marreese Speights, guards Josh Selby and Wayne Ellington and a future draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers for forward Jon Leuer.

Memphis also receives $6.28 million in trade exceptions in order to facilitate the trade -- $4.2 million for Speights and $2.08 million for Ellington.

The draft pick Cleveland acquires is protected 1-5 and 15-30 in 2015 and 2016 and protected 1-5 in 2017 and 2018. If Cleveland does not get the pick by 2018, it is unprotected in 2019

Now Memphis gave up maybe a little more in order to avoid the Tax for this season but they did receive 2 exceptions that can be used in the off-season should their salary situation look better...

It's trades like this that continue to baffle me as to the ones we make.

With Hollinger on board This will be an interesting team to see what happens.

These moves usually don't add up until the big stuff starts coming into view.

Its like chess, the early moves make sense when you see the bigger pieces.

I doubt very much that this is going to lead to some larger trade. It looks like nothing more than a straight salary dump.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

I beg to differ. Pay 350mm for a team and then get cheap for 4-6mm with a team that is 26-14? I think with what they have--they shouldve been buyers

Could they be clearing to bring in a contract in a trade?

Do they think they can make the playoffs this year? Rudy Gay is rumored in play, as is ZDump.

Im thinking reboot is in play?

Why buy if you don't think you getting past Western elite? DO they Think Rudy will break down and not fulfil contract?

Are they getting "cheap" or something else is brewing over a longer time frame?

Could be a great trade for Cleveland with Varejao out. Speights has played really well whenever he has gotten minutes.

Problem is the luxury tax penalties are steep and the smaller market teams can't afford to pay them. It's kinda funny; the penalty for building up a good team is that you have to trade away some assets and possibly ensure that your small market team can't win a title. This was not the goal of the CBA I take it, but it might be the result.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
