“Physically, I’ve been fasting a little bit,’’ Anthony said. “I haven’t been eating, but I’m done with it. I’m back eating. I usually do it to get clarity in my life. I’m done now. I can’t do it no more.‘’

Melo was fasting this week to bring 'clarity' to his life http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/knicksblog/knicks_melo_was_fasting_this_week_VRxGBMe6bf6XcFiurZDLAM#ixzz2HtXOQocs

I remember Nazir Mohammed fasting for Ramadan, and it had a major impact in his stamina.

Is this a religious issue or a diet? I am all for reflection and self improvement but this a professional athlete getting max money. It seems like really bad timing for Melo to weaken himself during a part of the schedule when Rashede and Felton are injured, and players like Kidd, JR and Brewer are banged up or worn out. Couldn't he have held off his fasting until after the season, or at least until the team is less reliant him?

Well if he was doing it to get clarity, it was most likely caused by the events of the Celtics game. If he got the clarity he needed and he can return back to what has been all season then im all for it.

Why can't he afford to see a therapist instead?

Fasting strikes me as a 17th century solution to psychological problems.

LOL..........god I'm get kicked off.

Psychological problems go mostly ignored in my community. It's a sign of weakness, and we don't got time for that.(is the thinking)

If you white and Jewish a therapist is a sign of strength and success.

Also that one is making a clean break from their mothers.

Therapy doesn't always work. That's the first thing. Secondly; That is Melos business. If he feels thats better for his mental health or spirituality (which is more important than his basketball career) then that is his right to go that direction.

I know a lot of people that fast.

while playing nba level games? I wouldn't care if he had fasted in the off-season.

I can't speak on what other peeples do, not even the Ricans.

But Melo's mother is black and he grew up in that kind of environment.

So he is more likely to speak to an Imam/preacher/community leader than a Marriage therapist, I would beat a months paycheck on it.

That sounds much smarter than fasting. Hopefully he's not gonna fast again, especially in the playoffs.

Fasting/abstaining is something spiritual/religious people like to do to clear the mind.

I don't understand what he is fasting from, he should be already eating the stuff that most people would consider dieting. Not like the dude has cook or work 10 hours a day.

A lot of people fast. I wouldn't recommend it but I'm OK with it. When you're burning 1000 calories in each NBA game, that's a really bad time to fast, though.
