Do we run and execute an offense....or do we give the ball to playmakers who can create their own shot? Just asking becuase when we play good defensive teams things start to break down fast. Yes, we have a good record and are beating teams we are supposed to beat, but in the playoffs, we will be facing teams with good defense. In November, it looked like Kidd had everyone being patient and staying with the game plan. I just don't see that patience or trust now. 1 on 5 ball is not ever going to beat good help defense unless Melo is on fire every single night and guys who don't touch the ball much make their shots and contribute. In a grind it out series, that is not going to happen consistently.

At our best this season we've been running really great plays. Double hand offs, PnR, and a good inside out game. We've been especially good out of timeouts as well. But without Felton and Melo, this team gets lost on O sometimes.

The offense is about penetration and ball movement off double teams. Now when your point guard is out it hurts you penetration and when your best PnR scorer is out it hurts your offense. Melo also allows Kidd to play off the ball and limits the team need for JR to be a co-point. On top of that they are trying to incorporate a player that hasn't played all year and he has a lot of rust to dust off.

Kidd is not a pg anymore he is a spot up shooter that can keep the offense flowing with his wing passes.

It looked to me like things started to break down in November when we lost to Dallas/Houston/Detroit/ and Brooklyn. Sure, Felton is out now, but this has been going on for awhile.

Those losses were more about Defense then anything else. I'm much more worried about our D than the offense.

it was breaking down on both sides of the floor. One on one on one side...no help D on the other.

The Knicks have a few issues minus Felton. Primarily we miss Felton's driving ability and pushing the ball. Kidd is not really able to play the point for the minutes we need and Prigs doesn't have NBA level handle to bring the ball up facing his defender. people think Prigs is slow, but that's not it. He just doesn't have great handle and that means he's not confident dribbling right at his defender as he brings the ball up. This limits his ability to do his job as well as he should. So i think Woody has been trying to use JR more, but he's killing the team when he tries to run the point. He holds the ball too long and fails to make the pass he needs to make when the timing is right, so then he ends up going solo and forcing shots.

This team plays best when they move the ball quickly and it doesn't stick. That is the biggest issue IMO. Just getting good ball and player movement is the answer to much of the teams problems. Run PnR, screens for shooters and swing the ball effectively. It's real simple.

Remember in the offseason when Woodson said he doesn't really practice offense because he's not worried about it? Yeah...

Son of the Wood offense: PNR(dead without Bulldog), ISO Melo, ISO JR, 3-pointers (leave or die)... thats about it.

JR and Melo are too boneheaded to figure out on their own that they need to get Amare involved. Even if Amare misses he gets to the line. Therefore it is on Woodson to fix this or it will be another sad 1st rd exit

One thing they need to figure out is how to cut when Melo catches it on the wing and go back to setting back screens. The help defense focuses on Melo that if players flash in the lane they would be open. Mainly Amar'e now that he is back. Also, Kurt, Kidd, Brewer, and Chandler continue to play hot potato which wastes so many possessions. I give Kurt a little credit but he has to be wide open by a few feet to feel comfortable to get his shot up.

ON AMar'e: He might not be right yet but one thing that has been promising is the post position he continues to get. Each Game he is getting it where he needs to be. I like what I have been seeing. Now he has to get back to cutting and becoming a side Pnr player. Little by little.

The D'Antoni/Melo offense = shoot 3's and if that fails go into isolation.

I want to see Prigioni and White start for now. Start getting Kidd ready for his backup role.

Not sure that amare is going to get there. I hope he does but I would look for he and prigs to get the pick and role first.
