Yup, not surprising. Intent or not, Stu Jackson and the league office don't want any altercations to happen after the game. Sucks that we don't have him for Indiana, but hopefully Melo will be focused back on playing ball against Chicago.

As expected if Zach got suspended/fined and Melo didn't get suspended the Grizzlies would have filed a grievance with the league.

Apparently Randolph was only fined 25K for that incident, no suspension.

Based on that precedent a suspension without pay is technically for Melo a fine that is more than 7 times that assessed to Randolph plus sitting out a game.

And the two situations are somewhat similar....they were both ejected from the game, there was suspicion of a physical altercation near the locker room. Lucky for them there was no video.

It's a tale as old as time... Mr. A bullies and taunts Mr. B, Mr. B reacts physically to Mr. A.
Mr. B gets punished.
Mr. A walks free, further enabled by lack of official punishment (although Mr. A may or may not bother Mr. B anymore)

There's no harm in appealing the suspension since it didn't actually come to blows and it's not like it would have considering there were 20 security & police officers there.

I hope Melo appeals, the penalty is too harsh. Should have just been fined.

He should definitely appeal, based on the Z-Bo ruling. It's basically the same thing, except Melo took things to the bus in addition to outside the locker room. So fine him 50K or 75K. 100K. He never made contact with KG and shouldn't be suspended for essentially yelling at him outside the lockers and his bus. Additionally, KG should ALSO be fined since he was the agitator of the incident and appeared just as truculent outside the bus as Carmelo did.

The difference between Melo and Zach's situation was Zach went to the team locker room then it subsided....Melo went to the locker room and team bus with actual video evidence, which means he showed in 2 instances no self control.

The video is probably what did him in as Stu's comments gave indication going to the bus is an absolute NO NO!


"There are no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an opponent after a game," NBA executive vice president basketball operations Stu Jackson said in a statement. "Carmelo Anthony attempted to engage with Kevin Garnett multiple times after Monday's game and therefore a suspension was warranted."

I guess I understand the leagues point of view but nothing happened. Melo was simply trying to have a "conversation" with KG after he insulted his family. I believe as a human being you have the right to do that but I can see how the league doesn't smile upon it. I still think its too harsh.

I understand Melo getting suspended. But what about Garnett? Sure, Melo over-reacted. But what about trying to punish the provocateurs?

I hope the locker room is ok. I'd be pissed as hell at Melo. But I guess we don't know what KG said.

Either they both get suspended or nobody gets suspended, By only suspending Melo it's pretty much encouraging Garnetts behavior and enough is enough, he's not professional I still don't understand how he choked Billy Walker when the buzzer went off last season and didn't get suspended .I wonder if the NBA will pay Garnett's hosptial bills after someone finally lays him out Pacquioa style.

Melo needs to stay cool with the outbursts. Right now--one bad spurt and were looking at 6th place in the east not 1 or 2. Boston is in 8th position but only 5 games back. We need to win games and without Felton Shumpert Wallace and just a little amare--we need melo on game every game.

IMHO, this whole incident was blown up BY THE MEDIA. If some scrub player, and Im sure its happened,did the same thing as Melo did you wouldnt even hear a peep about it. Id appeal it,we need to win against indy to keep dominance in the east, and who knows if we face indy somewhere in the playoffs the win/loss record might count for something. Dont forget we play indy and the bulls back to back this fri and sat so these games mean something in the division race and home court advantage. Id hate for Melo to take tonite off and this comes back to bite us somewhere down the line.

The media made Melo. Melo is a star. Mooby is avging 29 pts and fans chant "MVP-MVP", He made the decision to go to the visiting locker room. Thats not a reaction, its premeditated. He got dressed, then went to the bu. Again, premeditated. Thats why he is suspended.

Garnett is an awful person but this is how it goes.

I hate that he won't play. Its not hate to say one understands why he got suspended.

It's ok to say Melo was wrong. He was and the team will suffer. It's just one game which may help because of his injuries. The team can persevere and hopefully make them stronger. They need to start learning from these blow ups.

i love the way melo has been playing this year and i'm as big of a fan as anyone, but this is the kinda thing that made me detest him while he played for denver - it just reminds me of the whole suckerpunch thing. garnett says this **** to everyone, yet no one else is waiting for him by the locker-room. it's just disappointing, i thought melo had finally moved past this stuff in his professional life.
