Why does Carmelo not draw more fouls?

Carmelo should learn from James "the Beard" Harden.

When your shot is not falling, draw fouls.

Melo should have been trying to take KG off the dribble, and / or get KG in foul trouble. DRAW the contact. Not take contested jumpers.

The bigger question is why does Carmelo not get calls? He goes to rack looking for contact and gets fouled alot how many times does his head band get knocked sideways or off?

A lot of the contact Melo gets is from body contact. He needs to learn how to get opposing players to hook into his arms. Refs calls almost all the arm fouls. If you watch Harden, he will get his arm under the opponent and hook them going up.

He thinks heat checking and pull up 30ftrs are more effective.

I would wager Melo is amongst the top ten or so in FTA per game this game.

He was shooting a ton of jumpers yesterday which means his chances of getting to the line were greatly decreased.

I just looked up the stats. Melo is 6th in overall FTA per game:

he gets to the line around 8 times a game which is good. but often enough he initiates the contact, which is part of what i believe some call bully ball. add to this that his footwork is not very good in the lane because he is basically taking a couple of power dribbles, and he does not use head and ball fakes often at all, and you will have a hard time drawing fouls. his game lacks guile.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Harden can do that because of his handle and ability to create off the dribble/penetrate/attacking/breaking down opponents DEF
In fact, he is one of the top players in the league in doing so

While Melo can sometimes do it vs PF's, it is a completely different game/skillset from Melo's.

it occurs to me that melo wears a layer of under-armor that prevents him from a lot of the pain associated with contact. maybe if he lost the armor the refs would be a tad more sympathetic.

who else wears that stuff in the league?
