Last year was a shortened season

No training camp

Couldn't work on his game with coaches on the side

Injured 1st game of the season. Was behind the 8 ball from the start

His jump shot improved late in the season

As did his ability to get to the rim and finish

He has good shooting form unlike Brewer and Fields

He has great handle as a former PG

He is a rookie. Rookies tend to improve

Get well soon Shump!

I love this kid. If he doesn't turn into an all star I think he'll be pretty damn close to one anyway. He is going to play a big part in this season and thankfully, due to the way we're playing, there's no need to rush him back.

Nice how some could consider a true (elite) athletic talent as being a "bad offensive player" after only a rookie year during a shortened NBA season at that.

But yea, during only his rookie season he made a name for himself as one of the greatest perimeter defenders in the game today. Lock down defender. Can guard three position(s) ala the PG/2G and SF position(s). On the offensive end? Only time will tell, but Shumpert can drive with the best of em. Once he learns how to finish at the rim at a stronger clip and possibly improve his jump shot, this kid can become a very good offensive talent. Also has the dribble ability needed in order to bring the ball up court from time to time. Has the overall athletic ability to become an x-factor in regards to getting out there on the fast break as well.

So he wasn't a bad offensive player last year? Come on Man. He was bad but yes he improved by the months whicg was a good sign. Can he continue to improve yes and I think everyone wants that but all you can go is what he did last year.

Even though I thought, and still think, that we should have taken Faried, I'm very happy with Shumpert and he's one of my favorite players. But the knocks on his offensive game are pretty legit. It's not just based on last year either, his raw offensive game was a knock against him when he came out of college too.

because he was a PG. His decision making was a question. As a SG the bad shots he took as a PG at Georgia Tech don't look as bad. He surely wasn't forcing shots last year after that Memphis game in Jan

Shumpert has the potential and athleticism to be a very good offensive player. Is he there yet? Nope, and that's fine.

Fortunately, we can afford to wait on this becoming reality, and rely on Shumpert's known strength. Defense.

I think Shumpert has some offensive skill. If he can work on his 3 point shot i feel his number will go up

This. There is no way I can say Shump is a good offensive player, but he has the potential. He kind of reminds me of Larry Hughes, who kept taking Js and sucking on offense before realizing he needs to slash more and take it to the hoop. Shump needs to pattern his game after Wade, not Ray Allen.

It's too soon to say. IMO, Shumpert didn't look good offensively last season. His j was unreliable, even though his form was good. He had the athleticism to penetrate, but wasn't a great finisher. He passed well for a 2, but not well for a pg. But he was a rookie and will work hard to improve his game.

Shump is one of my favorite Knicks - I just love guys who can D it up and with elite level athleticism.

But, he really needs to improve his offense. The guy is just a rookie though, so that is to be expected (and he wasn't even a 4 year player).

Funny though, your list at the top made me think I was reading about why Stat and Melo had no chemistry...
