Both are nine year NBA vets, one straight from high school and the other was coddled (or never challenged) to the point of being spoiled rotten by his previous coaches.

Enter the demanding father figure who preaches accountability second and defense first. Don't worry about the point production. That is a given. The cool part about what they are doing is demonstrated best via tenacious defense and better decisions.

JR is playing as if his basketball life depends on it. Melo understands that he must take ownership of the flaws in his past.

JR is learning by watching, and running with, assistnt coach Jason Kidd. He did a perfect imitation of the Kidd bounce pass to James White with an identical bounce pass to Tyson Chandler. identical. That is evidence that he is a quick study.

Melo is finding his voice by leading on-court huddles. The best part of all is that both Melo and JR are fearless and fierce. They have that fire to be closers.

Pick your poison.

Expect Carmelo to be out for a month.

Just in time for Amare to return and renew his claim to the four spot.

All this, in turn, brings us to Carmelo Anthony. During the Lakers game on Christmas, Melo had Marcus Camby fall onto his left knee, hyperextending it. He played through the pain and said after the game that he expected to be ready for the Suns, but woke up sore Wednesday morning and got scratched from the lineup around the same time Felton did. As of right now, Melo's injury has him "questionable" for Friday with no tests expected to be run. Meanwhile, Mike Woodson's saying things like "I don’t know how long he’s going to be out — there is a concern" and Melo himself refuses to speak to media. These things are alarming and undermine the suggestion that Melo's injury is trivial. I, as a Knicks fan, am neither resigned to Melo's prolonged absence nor hopeful for his prompt return. I'm uncertain and scared. And I don't even know whether my being uncertain and scared is silly. I don't know anything. - Seth Rosenthal

Wow, that sucks.

It is true the blow is softened somewhat by our depth and also Amar'e coming home to us to roast, this is great, it is like they are taking shifts, and then they come together at the end for the big bang

Exactly

How many NBA teams could withstand (and win) despite losing two starers (Melo, Felton), plus three rotation (currently Sheed, Shumo, Amare) players?

The return of Camby compensates for Sheed.

Amare steps in for Melo

JR slides over to more ball handling responsibility (please get Jason some ice and a masseuse)

while Shump will get Brewer, maybe.

Defense, team assists and rebounding will define team personality. No matter who plays. If Mad scientist Mike Woodson could start James White, any combination is possible.

Need a clutch shot under pressure? Get JR the damn ball.

When Patrick Ewing was seen in the Garden the other day , he called on the witch doctor to put another hex / injury bug on the knicks. ( Still heated he's not apart of the Knicks organization)

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Then the young men will play video games while woodson cleans the dishes, puts away the food, starts cooking lunch but first must iron their freshly washed sheets. Perhaps later they will have a shoot around and practice but for now they lounge in turkish robes the father figure gave them for christmas.

Woodson is not just a coach to them, he is father figure if sorts, a mystical man they call "ritz carleton" for he treats them so nice! The three of them bond as one. No room for Linsanity here, just a wise man with a dark past and an even darker beard!

Picking and Rolling To A Different Beat

But since the Timberwolves game, with Felton struggling through injuries, Mike Woodson has given Smith more point-guard duties. And guess what? The sixth man has actually been off the charts in pick and rolls, which is exactly what the team will need now that Felton will miss four to six weeks with a broken right pinkie finger.

In the Knicks' first 26 games, Smith ran 5.1 pick and rolls per game. But in their last three games -- against the Timberwolves, Lakers and Suns -- he ran 8.3 per game. And his efficiency was ridiculous, scoring most of his points (16; 6-for-10) in pick and rolls. Overall, including P&Rs where he passed, the Knicks scored 1.32 points per play and shot 70.6 percent. To put that into perspective, Olympian Chris Paul, who has the Clippers off to an NBA-best 22-6 record, leads the league with 1.07 points per play.

"I think it's just unselfishness, understanding that he's drawing two guys and he can find the open guy," Jason Kidd said last week. "He trusts his teammates will knock down the shot. ... I think it makes the game so easy for everybody."

Overall on the season, Smith has averaged 0.90 points per play in pick and rolls, including passes. Among the 56 players who have at least 150 such plays, Smith ranks 38th. In comparison, Felton is 12th and Pablo Prigioni is 25th. So Smith has obviously stepped up tremendously as a playmaker.

In addition, Smith's usage rate skyrocketed from 23.1 percent in the first 26 games to 32.2 percent in the last three -- a number only rivaled by Anthony and Kobe Bryant over the course of the season.

Now, how about that for production -- and performance -- from Mr. Smith? - Jared Zwerling, ESPN

Meanwhile, back in snow country

While his sons slept, Big Papi Mike Woodson rose extra early to shovel the snow from the driveway. Another blustery and tempermental winter day in the Pacific Northwest. The Donner Pass is so brutal that trucks and cars must install chains before attempting to navigate the changing conditions.

Sacramento is the gateway to some prime skiing, but wise Papa Mike knows even open looks can be deceiving. The boys are shaken from their long winters nap. Little Melo is not feeling well. Little JR bounces out of bed, slides down the bannister and does a head over heels backflip to punctuate his landing. Papa Woody just smiles to himself, "that's my boy"

"Son, how many times have I told you to be more careful?"

"Gee Pop, I didn't break anything"

"Eat your oatmeal, I gotta see what's bothering your brother"

The family's on winter vacation though.
The trip started on Hollywood Boulevard where they caught the second showing of "Saving 's offense Starring Steve Nash" at the Grauman Theater.

Then they took a little trip to The Bellagio and they just barely got away with their shirts on their backs.

The family is going to finish up this little WestCoast Christmas trip by taking in easy in Napa Valley and crushing Some Grapes!!!

It's not out for a month bad, Melo was at the game working out. He greeted JR Smith his shirt off after he made the shot in the tunnel.

See, one must understand the difference between a father and a mother figure. This is an understandable issue coming from non-closet N*yets fans.

"It's a dark, cold morning. Dantoni has mailed in his resignation on the side of a used tampon. Melo grimaces at Dolan, shakes his head and trots off to pre-dawn morning shootaround. Things have been different under Papa Woodson. Different and tough. Woody's already in the gym, running suicides since 3AM. He ensures the two troubled lads notice the blood oozing from his kicks. JR's eyes widen slightly, but not too much. 'Uh, coach, sir, you want me to mop some of that shi--...uh... stuff off the court before we start drills?' Woody grunts in the direction of the floor mop, JR runs and cleans. Melo is stretching, while Yoda the shooting coach has him envisioning infintesimal improvements to his release. The wizened coach flips some switches and the court suddenly tilts upwards from the center, forming a huge 'V', like vagina. 'Start running boys'. They run drills outwards, uphill both ways. This is not the way things used to be, but this man used to wear the jersey. He's not some ABA shlep or just another member of the coaches boys club. He's got credibility. He's a man who is exactly where's he supposed to be, at exactly the right time. He will teach these young men the meaning of fear. He will teach them that it is possible to have a coach who could quite possibly take a Louisville to your skull, cut your dick off while you're unconscious, and feed it to his dog. For missing a defensive switch assignment.
'You don't shoot with your johnson, boys, please remember that'.
Meanwhile, Ray Ray's strapped to a chair with his head clamped in the direction of an 85" flat screen that keeps playing every second of Linsanity over and over again in painfully slow motion. Felton strains to free himself and ultimately ends up working out harder than the two ex-sons of Nuggetland currently being abused on the inverted torture court. The Woodsman rasps loudly in Ray's ear about how he'll never truly measure up. He reads verbatim from the UK site about how Lin is making Dolan regret his own stupidity. Felton lets out a primal roar, which gets Melo and JR moving even faster through their drills.

Tyson and GranpaSheed enter the scene and nod approvingly to the darkly bearded one. They both move over to a normal court and run simultaneous PnR's with Kidd and Prigs. Woods barks out incessantly about how JKidd's a has been and Prigs is a useless immigrant who shouldn't even be in the league.

Cope is busy getting his fingers taped and posing in the locker room with one of BK's old practice jerseys on. Woody walks by and drops a one way ticket to Turkey on the floor in front of him. Cope reacts as if struck with a taser and immediately starts hitting jumpers from the tunnel while three assistant coaches take turns punching and undercutting him.

Ronnie B is busy trying not to get electrocuted too badly as he's been matched up against a Kobe/Lebron/Durant hologram and every time the apparation scores, Woodson gives him a few hundred volts.

Throughout all of this, there's some black and white garbed figures outside, pressing there noses to the glass. Deron starts to cry, while mumbling softly '...I never knew my father..." JJ and Gerald just hang their heads. Bropez breathes on the cold glass and draws a smiley face on the fogged window...he grins and points at the picture he just made, and just before the other three move to pummel him to death, the new, tiny security guard slams open a side door and shoos them away.
'Aye told you boys to get the hell away from here yesterday. Now scat!' His badge reads: A.Johnson.

Woodson smiles at his own joke.

The smell of fresh coffee, bacon, pan cakes, fresh fruit, smoke salmon, Candadian bacon, freach toast with Maple syrup collected by the wise coach make for great incentive for the young men to eat. They will ask him questions about life, what it was like to play for Red HOlzman and tales of Bobby Knight!

George Karl never cooked them breakfast!"

Woodson smiles at his own joke.

holy shyt!! That was funny (and talented)
