NY Times has an article of the best players to come out of NYC. I know its hit or miss if you don't subscribe to NYT if you will be able to view it.
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/12/24/sports/basketball/new-yorks-best-basketball-players-as-picked-by-insiders.html?hp

In a nutshell, the top 5, according to Tom Konchalski, a h.s. basketball publisher.
Kareem - no arguement there
Connie Hawkins - without question
Roger Brown - ok ABA standout
Kenny Anderson - great hs career
Kevin Joyce - not even on my radar ?

The article listen top 5 for other writers and ex players, coaches. I thought the selection of Kevin Joyce was odd cause his name just doesn't register in my mine. Kareem is the constant on everyone's list.

I a probably agree with Kenny "The Jet" Smith's list the most lol I got a kick out of the fact that Albert King listed his brother and himself on the list lol I have no idea why Chris Brousard was invited on the panel. At least all of the other guys had some connection to NYC basketball. Also surprised that no one listed Felipe Lopez.

The greatest NY baller has to be Earl Manigault!

Long live the Goat!

From Kareem Abdul Jabbar:

When Abdul-Jabbar finished his career with the Los Angeles Lakers and had his number retired at the Los Angeles Forum, he was asked who was the greatest player he had played with or against. After a long silence, he answered, "That would have to be 'The Goat'"

HBO did a movie on the GOAT a few years back. I would've liked to see him play. He got caught up in drugs a petty crime.

Another thing that I thought was that Lou Carneseeca's list was all St.Johns players.

Why is there even an NBA forum?

Just get rid of the off topic/NBA forums as alot of people are too dopey too understand how to use them.

I can see Albert putting himself on list. He was definitely big time coming out of h.s. I'd say he was on par with Magic coming out of high school.
Another name I don't recall seeing on anyone's list is Pearl Washington.
