Why are we spending so much energy and/or time arguing with some of these unsatisfiable, negative 24/7 types of naysayers when instead, we could be enjoying one of the greatest starts to a single season our fan base has ever seen? Why? It's taken me a while to understand this myself, but these types of sports fans and/or people won't be satisfied until we win a championship and/or until ex Knicks "win a championship" in order to show us "just how right" they really were. It's sad when you can't post about the greatest Knick since Ewing having a potentially MVP type of season without being called out due to "LeBron and Durant" and/or considered a "circle jerk party" when talking up a currently outstanding season in regards to Melo himself leading our Knicks.
From here on out? I'm willing to lay back, relax and talk actual basketball while also enjoying our current ride for as long as it last's, with fans who are willing to enjoy the same in return. These naysaying critics? A grain of salt when looking at the grand scheme of things. We're true Eastern Conference Contenders for the first time dating back to the 1990's. Our deepest team maybe of all-time in regards to talent and depth from top to bottom. Our fan base has only seen four Atlantic Division crowns. I've only seen two during the 90's. Even with Ewing, we were not winning the Atlantic. As of right now we're 5/12 games up on Brooklyn and could very well be on the verge of witnessing something in which has only happened at a clip of once every 16.5 years; An Atlantic Division Banner hanging from the rafters.
Why are we letting some of these people get under our skin over the internet on a Knicks message board? I'm guilty as charged. I've derailed threads out of disgust to what I was reading. It's extreme at times. Those days are numbered. I'm moving on as a fan. Moving forward. Enjoying a certain type of feeling that I haven't had since childhood days in regards to our Knicks. The same feeling I had with Ewing? It's now with Melo. Heading into games? I can't stop thinking and/or wondering what Melo's on the verge of doing next. When's he going to set our all-time record for most points during a single quarter? He's came close twice thus far. How long until he breaks MSG's scoring record for most points during a single game? Tonight? Wouldn't have dreamed it. Struggled all night (as all the great ones do) before exploding out of no where for 19 fourt quarter points against not only a Wolves opponent but also against the refs. Zip zero fouls on LeBron over the past 6 or 7 consecutive games. Not a single one. But Melo fights every night while getting hit with 5 tonight including 1 phantom call. #7 is an offensive phenom.
Where am I going with this? Some posters (won't mention any names) seem to harp over everything and anything "negative", including something as immature as a thread titled "Losing is acceptable to the Knicks". Which then give them the perfect opportunity and/or thread needed in order to harp all over J.R smith of all players. Go back and read that thread, it's sickening. Yea, right, I'm pretty sure that J.R Smith not only puts his body on the line but also throws his body into the line of fire with reckless abandonment for something as simple as a loose ball, risking a potential serious injury, due to the fact that he's "only playing for a contract". Remarks and/or claims such as J.R Smith "only went overseas" due to the fact that he has "money problems" instead of an actual love for the game of basketball. I have news for these know it all's; Before there was money in J.R's life, there was a basketball. A hoop. A dream. And a love for the game of basketball. Something that simple minded fans from the comfort of their own homes and/or Jeremy Lin's brothers couch can not comprehend. Too busy trying to play the role of internet/computer GM while noy only being judgemental for the sake of it, but also believing their own lies at the same time. I guess J.R Smith "only dropped" 19 points tonight along with 7 assists, 5 boards and 3 hustle steals for his "next contract". Right, yea, sure, right; I'm sure that's what was running through J.R's mind as he gave his heart to the game of basketball tonight, the garden faithful and to his teammates for 39 minutes of strong performance. His "next contract".
I'm also "pretty sure" that Melo was only playing for his "career legacy" tonight. Better yet, I'm sure that Carmelo Anthony was only playing for his "career legacy" as he grew up and/or was raised within the mean streets of Baltimore without a father who passed on. Ever been to a Baltimore slum? Imagine living inside of one without a man of a dad. There was once again, a little kid named Melo. A ball. A hoop. A court and a dream to become pure greatness. Was Melo playing for his "legacy" (as a little kid) as he fine tuned his offensive talents and/or ability needed in order to become an all-time great, in regards to dominating the offensive end of the court? Was Melo (then) worried about his legacy during his Freshman season with Syracuse while he led a group of kids along with his school's program to their first and only NCAA Championship ever? Was he worried about his "legacy" as he led an awful Denver franchise (pre-melo) to 7/8 consecutive postseason trips? Or what about tonight while dropping 33 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 10/11 from the line along with 19 fourth quarter points during a come from behind victory? There's a certain poster who would be going ape **** right about now if this were Gallo's performance. What "legacy" was and/or is Melo playing for? Because the last time I checked, his childhood dream has always been to play inside of Madinson Square Garden for our Knicks franchise. In front of our Knicks faithful. With New York written over his chest. A kid in whom grew up with a New York bloodline. Proud of where he's from. Real basketball heads? True Knick fans who bleed Blue and Orange? We respect the fact that he forced his way out of Denver in order to live his New York dream with our Knicks. Melo didn't "LeBron us". He came to us. As a fan base, we welcomed Melo with open arms as well. In numbers too. Why? Because we all understood that we were on the verge of landing the greatest Knick since Patrick Ewing himself. Key word being 'since'. Guess what? Madison Square Garden and the Knicks faithful have Melo's back with 100% support. Melo at the free throw line tonight under two minutes? MVP. MVP. MVP. MVP. Chants of MVP for our greatest Knick since #33 of his prime years. But yet, we can't enjoy his performance in which has been MVP worthy due to the fact that these nay-saying critics 'say so'.
After this post, I no longer care what none of these naysaying negative critcs have to say for themselves either, because I strongly believe in the heart of my heart that an old school throwback type of true New York Knicks fan would never hate, crap on and/or harp all over the greatest Knick since Patrick Ewing himself in Melo Anthony. But instead? We support. Pull for. Dream with. Support to the fullest and overall? Enjoy a once in a lifetime type of scoring phenom who forced his way out of Denver for the bright lights of our New York City.
Why do we let ourselves get worked up with a threat such as "Losing is acceptable to the Knicks"?
If losing were "acceptable" then please explain why we've lost two consecutive (back to back) games only once this season. 88-76 vs the Pacers. 121-100 vs the Pistons. 102-88 @ the Bucks. 112-106 vs the Nuggets. 100-86 vs the Nets. 94-91 vs Minny. All coming off loses. 20-7 overall. But yet, we see threads such as "losing is acceptable to the Knicks"? Well, it seems as if they respond strong as ever coming off of loses regardless of what these nay-saying critics have to say for themselves. Kidd. Melo. Chandler. Rasheed. Camby. Kurt Thomas. J.R Smith. Yea, right, losing is "acceptable" to the likes above. Because of "body language". I'm sure guys such as Pablo, J.R Smith, Novak and Brewer "accept losing" as well.
In closing? 20-7. One of the greatest starts to a season we've ever seen. Enjoying our greatest Knick talent since Ewing himself in Carmelo Anthony. 12-2 home record. Only 1 1/2 games back of the OKC Thunder for the best record in all of basketball. The deepest Knicks team some of us have ever seen dating back to the early 1990's. On the verge of enjoying a Christmas day matchup against a storied franchise such as the Lakers. It's Los Angeles vs New York. We've returned to the spot light. As I stated while opening this thread up; Why are we spending so much energy and/or time arguing with some of these unsatisfiable, negative 24/7 types of naysayers when instead, we could be enjoying one of the greatest starts to a single season our fan base has ever seen?
I'm all for talking New York basketball while being able to agree to disagree in regards to our Knicks team. But when these posters take it to the extreme? It's time for me to move on and laugh as a poster, because I no understand it's a dead end road. I've came to the conclusion that some of these people in life use the Knicks as a scapegoat in order to vent themselves. I feel it was only right for my own fan sanity to get this off my chest. I've been going back and forth with the wrong people instead of just enjoying our season for what it's worh; a chance to witness franchise greatness. I'm the homer.
