Road Song

The Knicks could use Stoudemire right now with Rasheed Wallace and Marcus Camby still out of action leaving the team short-handed on the front line. But Stoudemire has yet to actually run through a full practice with the Knicks, something that he and Woodson have said they would like to do.

As the Bulls exposed, Tyson Chandler is only effective at point blank range. Noah effectively used his height and bounce to shield Tyson from the rim to help diffuse our pick and roll game. No post game, no buckets. Felton and Brewer were left with the scraps of Deng pestering Carmelo with length and athleticism. Jason Kidd was off.

JR Smith, our second most valuable talent, was the best player on the floor for New York. Not for his scoring, but because he was the only player able to get where he wanted on the court

They’re flying to Los Angeles following tonight’s game, and with back-to-back games in L.A. and Phoenix, the day before Sacramento will likely be a day off for the team.

With all our big men MIA, 2012 will end with a brutal road trip. The west coast swing always is. Away from home until January, team bonding over the holidays will be a positive byproduct. Win or lose.

When the Knicks return home they have three days off, which will likely mean a day of rest and then two days to use for real practice sessions before the Jan. 1 game against Portland at home.

Translation: Until Amare or Sheed returns, we will struggle with teams who double Carmelo. Our interior defense cannot be maintained by one man and everyone knows it. Our offense, over-dependent on Carmelo to carry the load, must get back to sharing the load.

After Carmelo was tossed, the ball finally started to move again and Raymond Felton drove inside with passion. Fact or fiction?

Who knew we would rely on Chris Copeland for quality minutes?

In Order Of Importance

1. Double team Carmelo inside the three point line. Draw him into confrontations by playing him with extra contact and hard fouls. He can become frustrated with referees and lose focus. Or he can get hot and carry a tram to the finish line through dominant effort plays on both ends. You choose.

2. Attach your best defender to JR Smith. Make certain that defender boxes out. Smith can leap over anyone. It would help if that same player is at least 6'7 as Mr Smith has more moves than Neo. He moves like one of them.

3. Put a body on Tyson Chandler. Keep him out of the restricted area by any available means. Having two guys on the floor who are 6'11 is a bonus. He is prone to foul and complain. Bait him into technical fouls and keep him distracted with petty contact when he catches the ball. Unfortunately, he makes his free throws.

4. Let Raymond Felton shoot. He is so focused on the chip on his shoulder that he misses the open man. His ability to run the pick and roll is limited by Tyson Chandlers Neanderthal ball handling skills, so the entry pass must be perfect. So long as Stoudemire is sidelined, Chandler has no help inside. Forget Rasheed Wallace. Camby is brittle and certain to retire when his medical records are finally revealed. Then again, Sheed was last seen headed to the gym.

5. Convince Iman Shumoert that he has a career in music.

Misterearl, if you know this how many in the association come playoff time won't know this. The game is 90% mental and 10% physical.

That's What Scouting Reports Do

Excellent Question playa. The best thing the Knicks had going for them in the early season was the element of surprise. There were low expectations and a bunch of open questions related to AARP. Now that everyone has seen how this wild bunch has played against a variety of strategies, a picture starts to emerge.

The fact we have so many rotation players receiving medical treatment makes us that much more unpredictable, after they return.

Any reporter who thinks Amar'es return is a negative is on drugs. Sheed is an anchor. Camby gives us interior presence, something that is being exploited. We desperately miss our bigs. As a result, we may not know what we have until March. That is, provided the injury train can dump some passengers.

20-7 is a nice place to be, despite a truckload of roster turmoil.

Just look at both rocket games to know how to defeat the Knicks. Rebound, run at all times, and run the PnR in half court sets.

I was just typing something along those lines. Never mind ...

The opponents can put doughnuts all over the floor attached to strings and keep yanking them

A Copasetic Alternative Direction

Please, just hear me out. I'm not suggesting they make this their starting lineup, and I certainly don't want to mess with the Felton / Kidd / Earl / Melo / Chandler lineup they use at the end of the game. Kidd should be starting and finishing games, no doubt about that. But I'd like to see Chris Copeland get some play with Melo and Chandler, perhaps in the second or third quarter. This front-court has played a whopping 13 minutes together, so it's not like Woodson is 100% opposed to putting them all out there.

Woodson needs to at least try giving Copeland some of Novak's minutes, for starters, and if Brewer and Kidd continue their respective shooting slumps then Copeland might be able to take some minutes off their hands. It's hard to know what he'll bring on defense, but the Knicks haven't really been excelling on that side of the floor anyway. On offense, Cope has shown the ability to stretch the floor and hit the open shots that will come his way from the inevitable Melo double-teams. At the very least, it's hard to imagine opposing defenses just flat-out ignoring the guy, like the Nets did to Brewer last Wednesday.

In conclusion, Jason Kidd is old. I do believe, however, that the Knicks have the pieces to limit his minutes right now, while still playing winning basketball.

Keep allowing only two players to score; Last night against Portland Anthony and Smith combined to score 73 of the Knicks’ 100 points.
