What I took away from this interview:
.Despite what some posters may think, they do not have an inside track on votes or discussions among coaches, execs and ex NBA players, and in fact Carmelo is in the discussion as a LEADING candidate in the MVP race – as of date.
.The assumption that Melo is a SELFISH player is just that – an ASSumption. This is the third time (Lin, Kidd, and KD) that Melo has spoken up for a team mate. He asked for Lin to have playing time, Told coach Woodson to let Kidd run offense, and lobbied for KD to start during Olympics – does not sound like a selfish player at all. And this is why you don’t make a judgment call on someone’s character without even having a conversation with them --- especially when you simply don’t know that man on any level.
.The Olympics, as expected, was a huge turning point for Melo.
.His goals are exactly what I expected. He talked about winning the division, getting out the first round and making it to the ECF. That’s what you call progress. Contrary to belief it’s not championship or bust.
.He understood when he came here that it was a 2-3 yr window, I think we lose sight of all the factors that played a role in the last 2 seasons – lockout, injuries, chemistry, coach change, etc.
.Amare is the perfect team mate – he’s willing to do whatever it takes to win, and with that I do believe he will be the key to us making it to the ECF and I do believe he will eventually start and it will workout.
