Iman Shumpert cleared for extra conditioning work. Practicing some with Erie but not cleared to scrimmage or for contact.

I would say February is a better return. Say February 10th. It's already December 20th. A January return would be too soon. He should at least scrimmage wtih actual contact for at least one month, before returning to the NBA grind.

Say for example Shumpert does return the 10th of Feb against the Clippers. That's still 34 games of regular season experience along with lots of NBA practices before postseason play.

I don't see what's the rush with Shumpert. He should not return until (at least) one full month of actual physical contact during scrimmages. Shumpert returns too soon? And his NBA career could be over before you know it. We're dealing with a serious injury in regards to a kid with all the talent/potential in the world.

He won't scrimmage for a month. Too much of an re-injury risk with no return. Maybe 2weeks

ACL isnt bad to come back from. Its all about managing the swelling. Thats the part that takes awhile. Few would know better than myself

I'm sure he's already spoke to AP's representatives...and took some of AP's suggested legal steroids already. Shump is also an exceptional Athlete. He will be fine.

Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland. The future is bright, I'm a Knicks fan for life!

I'm still wondering how the hell Adrian Peterson aka A.D. aka Purple Jesus is doing it.

Dude tore the same ligaments Shump did and is on pace to break the single season rushing record.

This after 8 months only. Phucking insanity.

He is freak of nature, I read somewhere that his ligaments are so supple like a baby's, no wear on them at all, something to that effect, maybe you can find this story if you know what I am talking about

But also Adrian Peterson I understand is exceptionally motivated athlete, like DROSE, so they both belong in some elite category of humans

its not... it really isnt. Jamal Crawford bounced back no problem. Jamal Lewis, I could do this all day. ACL is much different than a knee reconstruction. ACL only provide stability, its not really weight bearing. It also depends on the scarring (internally) left from the operation. This cant be worked around. you either have some, little to none or a lot and that is dictated by the nature of the tear and means needed to repair it. People also freak about setbacks. Doesnt mean the knee is bad or shot, but it usually means there is a more scar tissue which = more swelling, more healing time needed and more wear and tear during play.

Time will tell but ACL isnt anything to freak over.

Yea, Peterson is the greatest all around back I've ever seen. Barry Sanders was something amazing, something very special. But Peterson is the greatest combo of size, speed, power, strength, quickness, agility and abiity to catch out of the backfield that I've ever seen. Not so much the catching out of the backfield but combined with everything else? The greatest I've ever seen. Man runs like he's trying to murder someone. Not to go off topic talking about footbal but I can't expect Shumpert's return to be as strong as an all-time great such as AP.

I hear you, it's just amazing that A.D. tore both his ACL and MCL and damaged cartilage as well, and not only is back playing, but probably having the best season of his career, arguably a MVP caliber season.

If sports medicine has come this far along, this bodes extremely well for Shumpert.

Luckily, we won't need Shumpert to comeback and be an all NBA talent yet. Just fill the role he had last year as defensive stopper, and come into own as an offensive player over time.

Swapping in Shumpert for Brewer's minutes sounds amazingly good, no offense Ronnie.

that's what I thought but, upon 2nd thought, it would more likely be Kidds minutes (I expect). Kidd unlike Brew is an elder statesman who's minutes need to be cut back. If Melo starts at Power Forward, I expect Brew to start at the 3. If Melo plays the 3, Brewer should come off the bench

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Woody has a tought call... I see two options.
Start a big frontcourt w/ Melo/Stat/Chandler and keep the current backcourt of Kidd/Felton.
good: status quo in the backcourt which I believe is the motor that keeps this ship humming. We have seen Melo miss games and Knicks are not as good but can certainly compete. Without Kidd we have looked pretty lost at time. Shockingly so.
bad: you now have 2 of the same player to bring off the bench. JR/Shump off the bench are pretty redundant. JR comes in for Kidd. Who does Shump replace? Felton? Amare? Melo? Maybe even Chandler and you go with 3 guards MElo/Stat? Like the starting lineup, hating the sub options after
Start 3 guards (Felton/Kidd/Shump)
Good: Shump is an upgrade to Brewer. Knicks become faster and more athletic.
Bad: too many guys out of position. Melo at PF and Shump or Kidd guarding SFs. Weak on the boards and small. Whoever has to guard to bigger guy is going to get banged around.

Tough one.

Bring shump off the bench for now. When he is ready start him for kidd. Limit kidds mins but have kidd close games at pg. Less mins for prigs. No mins for Brewer unless you want to put him on Lebron

my first year back and my first real test was a baseball tourney about 13 months after my surgery. I played 1 games Friday night. 2 games Sat and we played in the championship which we lost on Sunday. After that game I played 3-4 innings of an all star game/ charity event. I started and played CF for all of them, so it was a HELL of a lot harder then an NBA back to back.

That being said I needed a lot of ice and ibuprofen that weekend, and there was significant swelling which lasted a couple weeks. I was able to play through it, although there was pain and swelling.
