Portland is a tough one and probably a loss. At NJ depends on whether Kidd is around. At Philly is winnable. At Indiana is a nearly a certain loss. Home vs. Chicago should be won, but they haven't done well vs. them this year. At Washington is very winnable. At New Orleans is tough and probably a loss. And Home vs. Cleveland is quite winnable, but they haven't beaten them this year.

I think the Knicks will probably go 4-4 or 5-3 in this stretch. Worst case is they go 3-5 IMO. They are currently 1 game ahead of Boston and Cleveland. The last game of the year vs. Cleveland could be huge.

Here is Cleveland's sched. 10 games. There are some rough patches ahead.

Cleveland's sched is as tough or tougher than NY's, and Boston's is easier. I could easily see Cleveland going 4-6 or worse. However Boston could go 6-4. The Knicks ultimately hold the tiebreaker vs. them because of the season series. But I think you'll likely see these two teams in the 7 and 8 spots. Who gets NJ in the 7 spot and who gets Indy in the 8th spot is tough to tell. I think the Knicks have a better chance against NJ if Kidd is going to be bothered by, or coming off of injury. But the way things are looking, the Knicks are certainly no lock for 7th. I do however, think they are a lock for the playoffs barring catastrophe.

I think the Knicks are 1 more injury away from catastrophe.

Definitely, but we just have to hope that won't happen. It's about time Tim Thomas came back. Mutumbo should be back soon as well. Say what you want about Deke, but we could've used him last night against Detroit, which had no C that he had a to step out against. He could have stopped some of those back door layups by Prince.

if we can't beat portland in a time of desperation like this...then in all honesty I would've rather not make the playoffs if we still have our 1st round pick.

I agree with the sentiment, but I don't know if that's fair. Portland has won 7 of its last 10 and is only a half a game out of a playoff spot in the west. They are a horrid road team though, and for that reason alone, we must beat them. It's a tough matchup though.

Portland is going to battle NY because they, IMO, have the hardest schedule of any playoff contender. I think Philly will be trying a last ditch effort for the 8 spot too.

Again, Knicks still has easy pickings compared to rest.

Just an update. The Knicks have 7 to go and could easily win 4. Boston has 8 to go and will probably win 4 of those. That would lock us into the 7th seed essentially. Cleveland is already 2 games behind us, and lost their last game. In their remaining 8 I see about 3 more definitely winnable games (meaning they are probably not gonna make it unless they can get hot again).

I love our chances to go 6-1 even (hey, I predicted we would finish at .500)
*at New Jersey Nets -> Kidd and KMart still banged up
*at Philadelphia 76ers -> No AI and Kenny Thomas hit his quota 3 pointer for the next 2 years
*at Indiana Pacers -> we probably get railroaded
*Chicago Bulls -> payback for the stinker we laid last week
*at Washington Wizards -> If we lose we deserved to be flogged
*at New Orleans Hornets -> this is a tough one, but the Hornets have had a bad 2nd half. Marbury owes Baron after Davis torched him last time they played.
*Cleveland Cavaliers -> Its home, the Garden is getting ready for the playoffs, we should win.

There you have it :)
5-2 at the worst. 6-1 and we finish even.

I was a bit more conservative with my estimates because we've lost so often to Chicago and Cleveland. However, if we hit any sort of stride we can definitely go 6-1 or 5-2. 6-1 would put us at an even .500 mark, which we haven't been it since we were 0-0. How's that for symmetry?

my guess is 4-3. You KNOW the Knicks will have one clunker. One of the Wiz, Bulls, Cavs games will be lost. If they will all three of those games, and it's through the gel'ling process, our first round opponent better watch out.
