Nice thread Knicks1248, although I've personally been focused on our next four games. That's when we'll complete our six game home stand. The longest home stand of our season. During our next four home games I say we continue to protect our home court advantage against the likes of Houston, Brooklyn, Chicago and Minny. A Madison Square Garden home court advantage that's became second to none. 21-1 during our 22 regular season home games under coach Woodson. 10-0 here in 2012-2013.
Over the next 4 games we're getting a Houston Rockets team who's only 11-12 overall (after losing tonight). We're also getting these guys on the tail end of a back to back. They're only 2-7 on the road to begin with. Right after Houston we'll then introduce a struggling Nets team who's only 13-10 overall (after losing 6 of their last 8 games) to Madison Square Garden. They've put up a 5-5 road record. Can't wait. Then we'll host the Bulls during a revenge game. This to me looks to be our toughest matchup during our next 4 games, just because of the way Chicago's been playing. They have a great head coach, and it's paying off without their floor leader in Rose. Strong coaching without question. They also feature a top of the line defense and rebounding team (once again). They're only 13-9 overall but they've won 7 of their last 9 ball games. Impressive to say the least being without their franchise MVP in Rose. Chicago's also put up a solid 6-3 road record but this time I like our chances while we feature Carmelo Anthony during our rematch. Then we close out our 6 game home stand at hopefully 22-5 overall against the Wolves at home..
When looking at our schedule heading into our matchup with the Lakers, I just seen an opportunity. An opportunity to not only start our longest win streak of the season but to also distance ourselves from potential competition. As of right now we've gone 2-0 with four games remaining. Two games up on Miami for the East. 4 1/2 games up on Chicago for the East. 5 games up on Boston and another 6 games up on Brookln for our Atlantic Division. Heading into this current home stretch I asked myself, what if this Knicks team could actually fight hard for a perfect 6-0 home stand? That would (potentially) put us on an 8 game win streak while being 22-5 heading into our Christmas day matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers; which is where we start our three game road trip against the Lakers, Phoenix and Sacramento. These next four games are what's on my mind as a fan. Lin, Harden, Asik and the Rockets are on deck.
Not to get ahead of myself, but can you imagine our fan base with our team and franchise being 22 and 5 while heading into our 3:00 matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day? A Nationally televised game at that? With millions upon millions of viewers? Well, we're four (consecutive) wins away from that Christmas day broadcast becoming and/or being all about our Knicks of New York. For 7 hours too. Two hours heading into the game during pregame shows. 3 hours of Knicks basketball talk during the game followed by two hours of (hopefully) Knicks talk during postgame shows.
Why could the Knicks become the Knicks in which stole Christmas? Because we could potentially be playing for a share of franchise history (regular season wise) come Christmas day. Christmas day has the potential to become a day in which our Knicks of 2012-2013 surpassed the 1972-1973 Knicks for the second strongest start in franchise history at (hopefully) 23-5 overall. Knicks of 72-73 started off 22-6 after 28 games. A win against the Lakers would then put our current team one step closer to franchise history in regards to our strongest start in franchise history. Only behind those Knicks of 1969-1970; who were at 25-3 after 28 games.
Sorry for the long wided post on something as simple as our next 4/5 games. But these are the types of threads I enjoy. The chance to look at our up coming schedule, think back on the history of our franchise, and envision an XMas in which could become a day in which we'll never forget as a fan base. Five consecutive wins away from our second strongest 28 game start in franchise history (and we've been around since 1946).
