This is a good piece on the race for MVP. I know you feel as though Carmelo is not in the MVP conversation. Here is a very good article on the MVP race. On NBA.COM they have him at number one.

http://www.nba.com/mvp-ladder/2012-13/index.html

1 Carmelo Anthony : New York Knicks
LAST WEEK: 36.3 ppg | 4.7 rpg | 1.3 apg

Anthony has come a long way since Linsanity, that stretch last year when Knicks fans were actually questioning whether he should step aside and let Jeremy Lin lead New York. Anthony is a legitimate threat to shake up the MVP race everyone thought would be a two-man competition. He's setting the table every night for the best team in the East (36.3 points on .566 shooting from the floor, .550 from deep, in the past three games). He had 30 on 10-for-15 shooting in just 23 minutes (sprained ankle) in the win over the Lakers last night. Minus injury this season, he's been unstoppable.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Scores 30 on Lakers (Dec. 13)
Leads rally vs. Nets, scores 45 (Dec. 11)
Has 34 against Nuggets (Dec. 9)
> Anthony's stats & bio

2 Kevin Durant : Oklahoma City Thunder
LAST WEEK: 25.7 ppg | 5.7 rpg | 4.0 apg

Durant is putting together one of those mercurial seasons that other superstars wish they could and somehow he seems to be doing it without much national fanfare. He's scoring (27.3), rebounding (8.5) and facilitating (4.3) for the Thunder in the same way the reigning MVP does for the Miami Heat. The Thunder aren't having any trouble putting teams away, though. They've won 17 of their past 19 games and nine straight heading into tonight's game against the Kings.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Scores 35 vs. Hornets (Dec. 12)
Thunder roll Pacers (Dec. 9)
Goes for 36 vs. Lakers (Dec. 7)
> Durant's stats & bio

3 LeBron James : Miami Heat
LAST WEEK: 27.3 ppg | 5.0 rpg | 6.0 apg

LeBron hasn't had to go through the sort of three-man MVP shuffle he's dealing with this season in quite some time. He hasn't been able to separate himself from the other contenders the way he did last season, when he was statistically head and shoulders above the rest. He's playing lights out (26.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists in his last 10 games) but the Heat have stumbled of late, playing uncharacteristic .500 ball (3-3) this month.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Scores 31 vs. Warriors (Dec. 12)
Leads Heat past Hawks (Dec. 10)
Drops 24 on Hornets (Dec. 8)
> James' stats & bio

4 Chris Paul : Los Angeles Clippers
LAST WEEK: 17.3 ppg | 7.3 apg | 2.0 spg

Whatever was bothering Paul and the Clippers during that mini-slide last month has vanished. Paul's been on a tear and the Clippers have followed suit, winning eight straight games and scoring 100 or more points in seven of those games. Paul's new aggressive offensive approach, however, has had as much to do with the Clippers picking up the pace as anything. Paul has these Clippers looking like the contender many thought they could be.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Double-double vs. 'Cats (Dec. 12)
Burns bulls for 18 points (Dec. 11)
Scores 16 vs. Raptors (Dec. 9)
Double-double vs. Suns (Dec. 8)
> Paul's stats & bio

5 Zach Randolph : Memphis Grizzlies

LAST WEEK: 17.0 ppg | 10.0 rpg | 0.7 bpg
Z-Bo has been steady even as the Grizzlies have stumbled a bit here recently, losing three of their last five games and showing a few signs of fatigue since their early season assault on the West standings. Randolph's consistency on the glass (12.8 rpg) all season is easily the most impressive aspect of his work this season. He's grabbed double-digit rebounds in all but three games this season.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Double-double vs. Suns (Dec. 12)
Dominates in loss to Hawks (Dec. 8)
Quiet night vs. Hornets (Dec. 7)
> Randolph's stats & bio

6 Kobe Bryant : Los Angeles Lakers

LAST WEEK: 35.5 ppg | 4.5 rpg | 4.5 apg
If the MVP formula was strictly about statistics, Kobe would have to rank among the top two or three players on anyone's list. Tracy McGrady might have two or three MVP's, too. So enough of that foolishness. While Bryant continues to shoot and score the Lakers out of their current mess, the Lakers continue to struggle. They are 1-11 this season when he scores 30 or more points. He has to come up with another method or simply wait like Mike D'Antoni and everyone else and see if Steve Nash's return fixes some of the Lakers' outstanding issues.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Another big night, another loss (Dec. 12)
Scores 42 in loss to Cavs (Dec. 11)
Can't overcome Jazz (Dec. 9)
Drops 35 in loss to OKC (Dec. 7)
> Bryant's stats & bio

7 Josh Smith : Atlanta Hawks

LAST WEEK: 20.0 ppg | 6.8 apg | 4.0 apg
The reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the Hawks All-Star (whoops, he's still waiting for the powers that be to get that right) is putting together a stellar all-around season as the face of the franchise. The Hawks are 11-2 in their last 13 games behind the versatility of Smith and fellow franchise pillar Al Horford's dirty work inside and out. But Smith's ability to create scoring opportunities for others set him apart from most power forwards in the league.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Paces rout of 'Cats (Dec. 13)
Dominates Magic (Dec. 12)
Hawks fall in Miami (Dec. 10)
Drops 24 on Grizz (Dec. 8)
Scores 23 vs. Wizards (Dec. 7)
> Smith's stats & bio

8 Tim Duncan : San Antonio Spurs

LAST WEEK: 14.2 ppg | 10.8 apg | 3.2 bpg
Who you calling old? Not Timothy Theodore Duncan, who has rediscovered his youth a bit this season for the seemingly ageless warriors from San Antonio. Duncan's 22 points, 21 rebounds and six blocks against the Jazz Wednesday night marked the fourth time in his career he posted a 20/20/5 game, the most of any active player. The only other player in the league to come close to that mark is fellow graybeard Marcus Camby, whose done it three times. The fact that Duncan can still do it at 36 makes it even more remarkable.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Lillard too much (Dec. 13)
Jazz win at buzzer (Dec. 12)
Spurs outlast Houston (Dec. 10)
Rolling in Charlotte (Dec. 8)
Spurs romp past Rockets (Dec. 7)
> Duncan's stats & bio

9 Stephen Curry : Golden State Warriors

LAST WEEK: 21.5 ppg | 4.3 rpg | 6.0 apg
Curry's Warriors are legit this season, winning when he plays his best and also winning on a night when he struggles a bit as well (see Draymond Green's game-winner to topple the Heat Wednesday night). Now that Curry's name comes first on every opposing team's scouting report, he'll have to redesign his attacks and make sure he sets up his teammates so he can maintain his offensive aggressiveness and keep the team winning.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Thriller in Miami (Dec. 12)
Thrives in homecoming vs. 'Cats (Dec. 10)
Warriors halt Wizards (Dec. 8)
Hangs 28 on Nets (Dec. 7)
> Curry's stats & bio

10 Rajon Rondo : Boston Celtics

LAST WEEK: 13.0 ppg | 13.3 apg | 3.0 spg
Like a dual-threat quarterback with spotty mechanics but sterling results, Rondo makes it hard to overlook the fact that he's one of the most dynamic forces in the league, regardless of position. His assist numbers (league-leading 12.9, the only player in the league in double digits) look like rebounding numbers. It's a story when he doesn't drop 10 or more dimes these days. As long as he stays healthy the Celtics should have no problem digging their way back into thick of things in the East.
IN LAST WEEK'S GAMES:
Double-double vs. Mavs (Dec. 12)
Eleven assists vs. Sixers (Dec. 8)
Triple-double in defeat (Dec. 7)
> Rondo's stats & bio

Shhh Thelonius, the Sombers are still trying to come up with a rational argument against this(there is none).

There are two major reasons why he is up there: (a) he's shooting 46% from 3 pt range and (b) the Knicks are almost an .800 team. If both numbers stay up there or even close to there, Melo will continue to get this much recognition.

I am offering the opposing party view on this article:

Melo is not proving anyone right or wrong because he is playing at an elevated level not seen before in any conversation with his name. Playing defense and ball movement are elevated that make his mates "better".

The last two weeks have shown a lot.

As the unofficial spokesmen for the Somberites I think his inclusion in a discussion is warranted.

Note: "Unofficial".

agreed, to an extent. There is a good chance guys that skim the posting might miss it. Also, there are those who might not even click on the thread who would be interested in this article.

I saw it earlier this morning, intended to post it but, forgot.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

great. 20 games done. Have we also won the NBA title? When is the parade?

Not discussing this, as its not important to me as it is desperately important to some, and the facts tend to disturb good hard working Knick fans and hurt their feelings. Who am I to tell you Santa doesnt exist? Enjoy the holiday!

Melo will not win MVP because he's a scorer, not an elite defender and has posted these stats before.

If you think he's gonna win Im happy for you. If you think finishing 3rd is awesome then Im happy for you.

Its the ARod thing all over again. Even if he wins MVP, which he has about a 2% chance (assuming KD, CP3 and Lebron all tear ALCs) whoop whoop. I would trade all the MVPs for a player who can get hot and win us some series this spring.

But yes... with Amare out and Shump out several guys have stepped up, among them Melo.

Nice to see a new thread expressing new exciting ideas.

And people wonder why Melo leaves them with a bad taste? News: Its not Melo, he is what he is. Its his minions who are brutal to listen to, but ubiquitous for sure.

One last thing... Being a Yankee fan and season ticket (full 81 games plus playoffs) from 97-2009 I guess I have developed a different attitude about players that come here. Lets see... your paid like a king. Treated like a king. Play for a great franchise in a great city. We arent supposed to be happy your here. Your supposed to make us happy your here. Sorry fella, but this is the first year to have any reason to rejoice Melo being on this roster. Im happy he's playing well, but we didnt trade the roster so he can be in the "MVP conversation." We traded the farm for a guy who will win us games this spring. THATS my measure for success. If you guys want to wank each other over a good 20 games this player your franchise gave up everything it could to get enjoy. The best part is GOD FORBID we lose in the first round people here will actually suggest people like me are happy because Melo failed. Hee haw hee haw.

Was Nash an elite defender? What did he win prior? What has he won since? What has he ever won? And I love Nash. They ARE two different players, but if the argument is based largely on defense then...... All I'm saying is that he is legitimately in the discussion. And he is a Knick. Something you didn't think was the case. But it's true.

he cant and wont win. Get over it. Nash ran the best offense since the Lakers showtime, and those teams proved their mettle by advancing in the playoffs, every year. Melo is a scorer. What else is he bringing to the table? Get over it dude. Last month Ron Paul was also "in the discussion." Thats true also. Like I said... enjoy.

It mentioned Carmelo's 45pt game. Melo scored 45pts against Brooklyn right? We played them Tuesday right? And yet the MSN article said sorry Melo we can't put you ahead of Durant although we'd like to.

Here's another thing I posted a Sheridan article who lists Duncan as #1 and guess who has the best record in the NBA? The Spurs! Guess what.... Sheridan is an actual voter representative for MVP consideration. Is Sekou?

It's more than obvious you didn't click on the links because if you did it had current team records and week performances? But let me take this a step further as to why you get rebuffed on threads like this and posts like this because....

WE ALREADY HAVE AN CARMELO MVP THREAD....you should have posted this in the thread located in the middle of the page on this forum. Nope that's not good enough for you

You along with Melo Lobbyist go out of your way to call out other respectable posters in efforts to defame point of views. Then when other links and references are provided showing what the broad scope could look like concerning the MVP race, there appears to be this offense and snuffing of the nose

My links were current and Melo has solid positioning but as has been stated since birth on this Topic other names are heavily in the Scussin.

Hee haw hee haw.

great post dude
thanks... I hear what you mean on the Yankee thing...

ARod booed
Giambi booed
Jeter booed
Tino booed

I didnt boo any of them (not my style, I go to root, if the stink oh well) but thats NY. You get the best and the best is demanded. It comes with the territory. Want to be the man here? It happens on the court or the field, not on NBA.com
