Why and how it affects our decisions, with the entire leagues, these next 2-3 years?

2015-16 FA Pool
====================

There are so many QUALITY FA's class, probably strongest FA class ever in the entire NBA history.
After 2014/15 when Amare/Chandler, MELO??, Kidd, Camby ALL expire

Melo can opt our 1 year earlier, I hope we do not give him a Joe Johnson/Allan Houston type deal, if he opts out early.
The FA pool is just too strong, when we could have so much salary. Too many FA's with different combinations that can structure a team.
I would be quite upset if Melo opts out and forces an max extension with the opportunity to team up with all these possible super stars and stars.
The possibility to form our own big 3 is endless many teams within these next years will NOT give out long term deals to many players because of this strong FA class.

For Melo, the opportunity to make slightly less like what Miami did last year vs getting the MAX Joe Johnson like deal could be the difference for competing for a ring the following 5 years.
I would NOT be surprised if we didn't resign Tyson Chandler and let Amare walk, with all these FA's.

Iman can be due for an extension, the following year, so timing is perfect. depending on his development, Jrue Holiday/Steph Curry the neighborhood of 10m + per year extension.

Felton can also opt out of his contract

JR Smith, Brewer, and/or mini MLE within these next 2 years???
I don't think Grunweld is going to give these guy big contracts beyond this FA class UNLESS it is cap friendly like Felton's.

KNICKS on the books for 2016-17
-------------------------------------
Novak
Iman
2013 1st round pick
2016 1st round pick *Denver swaps for better pick with us*

about 10m
--------------------

Felton *PO* 3.9m

IF FELTON OPTS IN, it will be about 15m committed salary

some UFA's include 2015-FA's
===============================

Kevin Love, Aldridge, Rudy Gay, Rhondo, Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Melo
*Miami's BIG 3 can all opt out as well, can also opt out 1 year earlier, they have 2 player option years consecutively*

Marc Gasol *PO*, Roy Hibert *PO*, Anderson Varejao, Omar Osik, Tyson Chandler

Dragic *PO*, Eric Gordon *PO*, Lin

STAT, Andrea Bargnani, Glen Davis

Jeff Green *PO*, Beasley, Aafflo,

Over the Hill/ Older Vets UFA: Duncan, KG, Nash, Boozer, Tony Parker, ZBO
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2008 draft class will be RFA (although some will be resigned)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John Wall, Cousins, Greg Monroe, Favors, Paul George

Bledsoe, Chandler Parsons, Patrick Peterson, Serephin, Ed Davis

What strategy will we use??

MoneyBall strategy
continue to play NY style FA by overpaying for talent, biggest names and hope then MAKE IT WORK.
grab as many stars as you can that FIT together as a cohesive/defensive unit
best 2 way talents
VETs/Experienced

YoungGuns/POTENTIAL
combinations of both?

unless things go marbury south, i se us signing melo to a long term deal. chandler and stat will walk if they are still here. i would love lebron, of course. but love is high on the priority list.

Tyson, Love and Lebron or Melo would be a heck of a front court

I think if its a MAX deal like Joe Johnson I think we will be screwed, max for Melo then starts would be in the range of 20-25m
With all these options, I would like to roll the dice and take my chances with FA rather than paying anyone a starting salary of 20m outside of Lebron in that FA class.

Max for Kevin Love would be 15-18m, it is a huge difference.
If 3 All stars take 2m-3m starting salary or so less, it could be the difference between signing 2 MAX STARS or 3.
It would increase chances for a ring and pro long each player's career, the more talent we can acquire.

Love, Lebron, Rudy Gay or Melo would be my top 3 choices if we went with MAXish type money.

With Kidd/Rasheed Wallace as Woodson's assistant/development coaches

2015/2016 FA class is Insanely Talented, could be NBA history's DEEPEST talented
