he just stated that a player should NEVER lose his starting job due to injury...so when STAT is ready, he will be BACK in the starting lineup

SMH!!

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Nothing new. Said the same last year. Fans and media calling for him to come off the bench are out of their minds

Barkley was on with Lupica early and said the Knicks don't play defense. On the return of Amare and Shump he said they score 20pts each but will have to play D and rebound. Guy has no clue what he is talking about and none of the hosts called him out on it!

Barkley last watched a knicks game in 2006 and has no idea what hes talking about. He did say STAT needs to rebound more which is nothing new.

Im not even saying he should or shouldnt be in the starting lineup. My issue is - evaluate him first: see if he can play defense, rebound and most of all fit in with the team. See if he can even play starters minutes with those knees. the way it sounded, woody has made up his mind that stat will start

Well, this is a WHOLE LOT of PRESSURE on Stat if we keep playing on this level, or even near it. I don't see how the guy can succeed here as he just can't play that good on D. I wish him/us well though.

IF Stat does come back and we start not playing so well, I just can't see him staying in the starting lineup. In a way, it might be better to play him off the bench in limited minutes first, after all, he is coming back from an injury.

That said, Stat and Melo will have some very good pg's getting them the ball, but spacing might still be an issue.

While I agree he may be more effective in the second unit, I'm more than anxious to see what STAT we get this year, regardless if he starts. Just getting his jumper fixed will make a world of difference between this year and last.

Whatever post moves he's added from Hakeem may be the X-factor in the Melo/Amar'e pairing. If he still opts for the matador D, Sheed's building his endurance up each day...

Woody will give him a chance to perform in the starting role. No doubt in my mind though if Amare is a determent to the team he will lose his starting spot.

No secret that Amare needs to improve his D but he is not useless on the defensive end. He will still get his block per game. If he can get 2-3 more boards per game we're talking about a PF avergaing 10 bounds per game. It's obvious that Tyson has been working on his jumper. Chandler has taking more jumpers in 3 games than he did in the first half of last season. Tyson working on his J leads me to beleive that Woody is going to get STAT into the post much much more. Unless STAT is a shell of his former self there is no way that he is coming off the bench. We are going to need him big time as the season progesses.

From espn:

New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson isn't sure what he's going to do with Amar'e Stoudemire.

Stoudemire is out for the next 5-7 weeks following knee surgery to repair his injured left knee.

When Stoudemire returns, many wonder whether he'll do so off the bench or as a starter for the currently undefeated Knicks (3-0).

Listen to the complete interview:
http://espn.go.com/espnradio/newyork/play?id=8607482

During an interview on "Stephen A. Smith & Ryan Ruocco" on ESPN New York 98.7 FM on Thursday, Woodson said Stoudemire would be a part of the rotation and isn't likely to lose his starting spot. But he did not say definitively that Stoudemire would return to the starting lineup.

"I can't make that decision right now. My thing is you don't lose your starting job based on injuries," Woodson said. "He will come back into our lineup, and that may be the case. Again, only time will tell. We have to see where he is when he gets back. And we've got to make sure he's healthy enough to do the things that we've asked him to do on and off the floor."

There are several benefits to bringing Stoudemire off of the bench:

1. Separating Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony could be beneficial for the Knicks. The Stoudemire-Anthony duo hasn't been as effective as most had expected in Anthony's first 18 months in New York. The Knicks are under .500 in games both Stoudemire and Anthony are in the starting lineup. Both players seem to operate best in the same space (mid post to the elbow). Anthony thrives in isolation and Stoudemire is at his best in a more wide-open attack.

2. Stoudemire should have more opportunities in the pick and roll coming off the bench. As a starter, Stoudemire often was not the primary screener on the pick and roll because that role belonged to Tyson Chandler because Chandler is not a threat to knock down a jumper. But if Stoudemire is on the floor and Chandler's on the bench, it would allow Stoudemire to be the screener on the pick and roll, a role that he thrived in with Steve Nash in Phoenix and Raymond Felton in New York. Stoudemire could also have more opportunities in the post when he's not on the floor with Chandler

"Amare, make no mistake about it, is a big piece of our puzzle," Woodson said.

Stoudemire will be out until at least December 12, according to the Knicks' timetable, which means he'd miss at least the team's first 21 games. The team is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. They'll have a chance to start 4-0 for the first time since 1993-1994 when they take on the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare

Lets make this easy, if Stat is healthy he starts.

Its Woodsons job to make it fit.

Stat plays well when healthy. Always has. He is still our best PF.

Laughing at people actually listening to Barkley.

He capped his only relevant period when the cell phone commericals with Dwade stopped being funny.

Yes, they were mildly funny at one point.

3. Having Amare play against the other teams' backup big men should allow him to put less stress on himself and will hopefully keep him healthier longer.
