We just beat the Heat...WOW...Many things to comment on from this game...First and foremost, GREAT coaching...Woody started Brewer and had him defending Bron freeing up Melo to go all out on the offensive end and the Melo was relentless going to the hole...Kidd's role here...I would admit I freaked when we signed Jason Kidd..I didn't think he could give us extended minutes playing PG but Woody is using him differently...He started at the two and being a heady player, he made the extra pass when necessary...He took the open shot that has been there the last two years with Fields and knock them down..He rebounded well running to the basket when everyone is looking at the basket...Now I'm not saying we will always execute like that going forward but it's nice to see there was a plan and it was executed...Felton's defense on Wade...Our back court defended Wade and Bron...That means our front line can protect the rim...

Felton is balling again...As expressed in another thread, good outing for him...Best of all for me is the defense...He played good defense on Wade a couple instances and played well against Charlmers...Ray hit some big shots...Missed a few in the lane but that will come in a month or two when he finally gets him game legs...Brewer didn't seem to get the "we are all losing weight this summer memo"...But he was key with some timely rebounding and shots...He can guard Bron, as much as anyone can...

Melo had a good all around game...His shooting wasn't great but played a lot better when he let the game come to him...He really played great defense...He trusted his teammates last night...He had 10 boards, I take that with the attention he gets every night...Again, I'm encouraged to see Melo step back twice now, once in preseason, and in last night's game..he seem to recognize when he has been rushing/forcing things....I hope this is a sign of things to come...

Chandler set the defensive tone on the front line...Felton found him a few times for the dunk as well...He got into foul trouble as well last night but Camby will step in the back up role in a few weeks...KT and Sheed will sure up the front line with minimal minutes and both can hit that extended jumper..huge...

We are playing the same defense we played in the 18-6 run last year...We hit a lot of threes that you normally won't hit every night..But I'll say this, they were open good looks because we made the extra pass...Miami trapped us and we made the extra pass and knock down the open jumper...Miami has been doing that to us for two years now and we broke them last night...We frustrated them a little and they let up and maybe was discouraged...They will have to look at some video to see why we got so open...

Again, it's early..I love what I'm seeing..I think this team was built to compete against the Heat...Smart PG plays..Making the extra pass..Playing defense...We should win some games...I was really down in the dumps after hearing about Amare yet again...Last night is giving me some hope...Let's get Amare and Shrump healthy and put together a good run...Go Knicks!!!

It was freakin awesome. I had to watch the game on delay so I just went to the msg website and listened to Woodson's press conference. First question asked, 'what were you most impressed with tonight,' Woodson answered, 'the defense'. I had a hard time sleeping and I can't pull myself away from the computer to get anything done I am so excited.

if you remember how dallas beat the heat in the finals and you look at last nights game, it was the exact same recipe..2 pgs quick ball movement and having tyson chandler in the middle..

I remember berea squeezing through miami's pnr defense and taking it to the hole or kicking it out to dirk, kidd or terry..

I agree with all your points.

I'm wondering what will happen if and when Camby, Shump and Amare are healthy. We may have too much depth. It's a GREAT problem to have but Woody played 9 guys significant minutes and we potentially have 3 or 4 more to work in. With the age on the team injuries will probably take care of this but it's amazing to me that the Knicks are potentially a team that can go 12-13 deep.

Very true...But as u say nice problem to have...Maybe we cut Amare to 28/30 mins per keeps his fresh for the playoffs..Melo and Ray back to 34/35 per..Kidd at 20 mins per...No need to run these guys into the ground with the depth we have...Also, it gives guys who don't usually get mins confidence if one of our guys go down...

Man Hahn was right. The Knicks have ruffnecks now. Sheed, Camby, Thomas, and Tyson. Those guys know how to play d and intimidate. Its going to be a throwback year. Brewer and Shump together are going to give perimeter players fits. Felton just plays balls to the wall and he is built like a tank.

It's like the 90s all over again and some under JVG...I want to see us bring it like this defensively all the time...

One more thing we can file under "Understanding the game"...Kidd made a big steal, intercepted the ball near the baseline..he threw it to Felton who waited for him to get up court then pass the ball to him for the open three...Clyde talks about this alot...Reward the man for hard defensive work!!! Go Knicks!!!

I was thinking about that as well, he is dfntly going to have to play 10 guys..maybe alternate kt, wallace, and camby game to game..But it is highly unlikely for this team will stay healthy as a whole so this may never really develope into a problem.

dirk is a much better shooter. melo is a much better rebounder.

loved everything i saw from melo last night except for when he got a little too excited and was doing heat check but w/ever. when u score 16 in the first quarter you're allowed a heat check. great effort on D, except for the one time he didn't run back because he was complaining about not getting a call.

think i'm gonna try NOT to booze on saturday night so i can wake up at frikkin 9 AM PST to watch us handle our bizNASS against philly.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Hopefully Woodson can use the depth to keep the older guys healthy. Between KT, Wallace, Camby, Stat and Novak we should be able to provide Melo and Chandler enough help on the front line even if a couple of them are always out with injuries. Same situation in the back court enough bodies to survive even if they can't keep everyone healthy at once.

Outside of losing Chandler or Melo and maybe Felton a lot of the other parts are are inter-changeable.

Holiday is ready to bust out. Not sure if Young is a player or not but if he comes into his own they are going to be really good. Glad they don't have Bynum. With Bynum I think Philly beats the Knicks.

The thing that I like is the BB IQ of the team is extremely high. This is a team that will go into every game with confidence and the calm of old vets who know what to do and aren't in a hurry to do anything stupid like young players. Watching other games i'm shocked by the poor level of floor leadership i'm seeing. It's night and day with the Knicks now. I was on board with the moves to bring in vets with real pedigree and I was hoping this is what it would mean for the team.

Just think about how much better the Denver Nuggets were when Chauncey took over and got everyone settled down. It's what you're seeing now with having Kidd, Felton and Prigs. That's why the Knicks had tried unsuccessfully to add vets to the team over the last few years. This time they were able to get the guys they wanted.

If Amare would accept a backup role when he comes back then our depth would be used in all the right places.

Pablo and Amare featured in the PNR. Shump, Smith, Novakaine as there supporting cast. First unit you would have Melo with unlimited spacing and good ball movement. 2nd unit you would have Amare with unlimited spacing with good ball movement.

Old timers Camby, KT, Wallace can get spot mins when needed. Rasheed Wallace could be amazing though if he gets in shape. He is a very smart defensive player and can stretch the court giving Melo, Amare, or Tyson spacing at the 4 or 5.

Agree 100%.

People talk about Boston and Miami has the teams to beat but Philly is the team everyone needs to watch out for.
